Servicing Volume pots?

Hi,

Does anyone know the correct way to clean/lubricate the volume pot on a T5; (crackling & noisy when adjusting).

This was a problem that plagued my old T5-12S (recently sold) and that I never solved, but is now starting to be an issue on my 12 month old T5z-12.

I presume the volume and tone pots are the same across the range of Taylor guitars; they appear to be sealed units with no access to administer any cleaner/lubricant.

Can any Taylor technicians help please..........how to service the pots and the correct product for the job??

The best advice I could give you is to call customer service at the Taylor factory.

I had a similar problem on my 2008 T5-S; my first instinct was that, since I bought the guitar as NOS in 2012 (i.e., approximately four years old) from a dealer in Florida, that the internal potentiometer contacts had developed some surface corrosion.  I kept working the knobs, turning them from post to post, and eventually the crackling and popping stopped.  It's been fine ever since.  Give that a try.

But it's just possible that the pot(s) is/are bad.  If you bought the guitar new from an authorized dealer, it's under warranty and will be corrected for free.

Exactly. If you can access the pot, spray the innards with deoxit. It's not cheap stuff, but from time to time dust will get in there and a quick spray and the crackle will be gone.

How can I access the pot in-ards? Taking the plastic knob off and spraying contact cleaner doesn't do the job.
