Too true- I've had four Takamines with satin finish spruce tops and the only one that never went glossy was the backup one that lived in the case and almost never saw the light of day...

Artisian Guitars has a Thinwood real wood pickguard that looks pretty fantastic. I put one on an older 814ce I have and plan to do one on my 414 and 412 also.

Just another option in case you change your mind.
