Baby BT2 tuners.
« on: March 08, 2017, 01:49:54 PM »
Hi all.  This is my first post here. I've read some here, but just have registered.  I've owned various Taylors over the years.  Only a couple were USA made (early Baby and a concert size).  I've mostly had a Baby here and there, a GS Mini on occasion, Big Baby, etc.
I'm a big fan of small guitars.

I bought a new 2017 Baby BT2 mahogany not long ago.  I am wondering if anyone knows the gear ratio on these stock tuners?  The tuning seems a little more fidgety than I remember on the Baby models.  I know the short scale is part of the reason for that, but it seems maybe this guitar could benefit from a higher gear ratio.  I'm considering some Grover 18:1 ratio.  I'm not worried about having a direct fit because I've installed a lot of tuning machines over the years, so drilling a new pilot hole isn't a problem. I've seen some Grovers with that ratio for under $50.  I really wouldn't want to spend over $50 if I do change the machines.
I know there are some older threads talking some about this, but I'm not sure if/when Taylor has made any changes to the tuners, and this is a recent model.

I have to say the intonation on this particular Baby I have is as good as I've ever had on any size guitar.  I made a small adjustment to the nut slot for the B string to fix a slight intonation issue at the first fret, but other than that it's as good as I'd expect out of any guitar.

Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to reply to this.  I usually do more reading than posting on forums, but maybe I'll jump in there some here.
