552ce vs 562ce
« on: March 16, 2016, 03:29:12 PM »
I know it is still early, but...
Has anyone A-B'ed the 552ce and 562ce side by side?
I am seeing a lot of focus on the 562, but not its spruce brother.

This early in the release it's unlikely many dealers would have both. The 552 is cedar topped. I saw and heard one last night. Everybody wanted to play it. I never got a chance. It wasn't even the stores guitar. Was traveling with the road show guys, but was for sale.

Thanks for that video. One sounds like cedar, the other like mahogany haha. One a bit too jangly, one a bit too dark for my tastes, although I appreciate the playability angle they're trying to address. Still thinking a 656ce is the sweet spot.

It's all subjective; to each his/her own. I really like my 562ce. Glad you like your 656ce.

I listened to the video, and once again I am reminded if choosing between two guitars  I could never pick out a guitar without testing them side by side.  They both have good tone, they will both feel the same, but I am certain that I would hear a much different guitar with them in my hands, and playing them myself.  And I do want to try them both. ;)

So, any more feedback on the 552ce vs. the 562ce?

How about anyone who purchased one (Amos514)?

I really like my 562ce. I think it looks great, sounds huge (for a guitar that size) and plays easily. I will put a short clip of some noodling around in the recordings section if anybody wants to hear it.

I wound up going with the 552ce, mostly on instinct. I already own a hog Collings (OM1 Mh SB) which I love but I generally prefer cedar or spruce for what I normally do. I have not been disappointed, although I have yet to try the 562ce. This guitar is incredible. I have owned dozens of 12 strings from Martin, Guild, and Taylor, but this one is by far the FUNNEST and tactility pleasant 12 string I have ever played. If you are a 12 string lover and have not picked one up yet you are missing something special here. It is very lightweight and extremely comfortable. The string spacing is superlative for any playing style.

The first thing I did was remove the pickguard. I found it to be very easy to do although I carefully lifted the thing off over a period of about 10 minutes. The key here is patience. I did not use heat or chemicals, just supreme and utter patience. Looking under the guard as you lift it off you will see thousands of minute spiderweb-like hairs of the adhesive slowly giving way. As others have said the pickguard not salvageable once removed. Peeling it off pretty much destroys it. Since it was a new guitar there was no tan line or residue. I think it looks great and since I am not heavy strummer I have never had an issue with degradation of the finish below the soundhole.

Super happy with the guitar and am calling it a keeper. My only other keeper Taylor is my GT8. However I am now tempted to explore this series more.
