I certainly can understand the concern! I've been talking to Brad Daniels of Kolaya Guitars for a while about a build. I originally wrote to him after he put up some Amazon Rosewood sets on the AGF, which were lovely. We emailed back and forth for a month or so about his instruments and how he could address my needs (I'm deaf and use a cochlear implant to hear.) He was very perceptive and offered a number of suggestions for wood types and builds that might work best for me. After one email exchange I decided that I was able to trust him to make a guitar that would be very good, and so made a down payment to get on his build list. Before we decide what woods to use, though, I'll be playing his Tornillo Carmen and another Carmen that he's working on now. Once we know how I react to those guitars, we'll be able to make a pretty good choice about woods and what I need from him.
So, what I suggest is to *talk* to Taylor about what you need. Don't just pick some pretty wood and say build with that set. Tell Taylor what you like to play, what you want to play, how you respond to other Taylor models and other guitars in general. And let them guide your options. You'll be far more likely to get a spectacular guitar that way.
(And by the way – I think that choosing woods for their looks is a really really bad idea.)
