I personally would keep it in a case. Beyond humidity issues, the strings will last longer. I would prefer to keep them hung though, they just scream..."hey you, get over here and play me"

Just as I read that I swear I looked up and my guitar looked at me and said it!!

Same as everyone, nicer hanging, safer in the case. I also think you should look out for direct sunlight if they're hanging. Congrats on your new guitar!

I keep 'em all in the case except for the GS Mini.  That's my grab guitar.  Nice to have one of those you can leave out for those fleeting moments when inspiration strikes.

I keep my guitars hanging but I have hygrometers to make sure the rooms they are in are 42-55 percent humidity (safe levels).

I keep mine on stands in my music room.  Of course, I don't have small kids or big dogs and my house stays around 50% humidity.

I keep my guitars out for easy access but my guitar room climate controlled and monitored constantly.

Hi Frank

Welcome from fellow UK members (south of the border in Northumberland).

We like to keep our guitars out on display and ready to play at a moment's notice (no children or pets to worry about accidental knocks). We bought a digital Thermometer/Hygrometer from Amazon UK to check our humidity situation

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002U9U4B4

Now we're concerned about the humidity levels (usually 60 to 70) and put the guitars back in their cases more often than we used to.  :( <sigh>

Thanks Jimmy and Val for the advice and amazon link - had spent the day with no joy trying to find one and yours looks the best so I ordered it straight away!

I am interested in what the humidity is now in the house!!!!

I used to keep mine hanging on the wall, but the room had a humidifier and dehumidifier running at the same time.  Since I don't play any longer, I keep them in the cases.  I say it all depends on how often you play and how well you maintain the room it's in.

The best place for a guitar not being played is in the case. Minimizes environmental effects (humidity or dryness) as well as accidental mishaps.

I'd keep it in a case, especially if you live up north.  I have a whole house humidifier and a hygrometer in the room and case.  The humidity level in the room still swings by a substantial margin, while it's pretty much constant inside the case.
