Taylor Macassar Ebony or Malaysian Blackwood ??
« on: December 13, 2012, 07:06:12 PM »
I just checked Taylor's website and i shocked when he named it with Macassar Ebony. In fact the back and side is Malaysian Blackwood.

The link :http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/ps16ce-fltd

Check the pictures below :

Taylor Guitar :

Malaysian Blackwood set :

It clearly that the back and side is Malaysian Blackwood instead of Macasssar Ebony.

Any idea from that pictures?

the fall 12 PS LTDs have macassar ebony back & sides -
Bob was asked about malaysian blackwood (W&S fall 12 V 73, pg 10) & it has not been used

some feel that malaysian blackwood can have figuring that resembles macassar ebony
http://tonewooddatasource.weebly.com/wood-details-m.html

i would be more concerned with someone trying to pass off malaysian blackwood as
being macassar ebony, although both sets are priced similar at lmii, along with ziricote -
oddly enough, malaysian blackwood is also mentioned as having coloration similar to ziricote
as well, but neither macassar or ziricote are compared to malaysian blackwood for anything

neither picture is very accurate representation of either wood, imho

the pics of the guitar looks 'washed out' to me & the video is a little underexposed
but i think the video is a little more accurate, in terms of actual coloration, than the pics
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...
