WC?
« on: June 25, 2012, 12:01:20 PM »
I was at my local Guitar Center and my normal sales guy wasn't there.  The guy that was was semi-knowledgeable on Taylors.

I had asked him if they had any "12" styles, and he (understandably) misunderstood thinking I was looking for a 12 string, when I meant GC.  He then said no (which was apparently correct), but then I heard him tell a guy who was checking out a GA that it was a GC.  Whatever....

But there was one unit that was too high for me to see and I asked him what model it was....he got a ladder and said it was a WC.....I told him I was pretty familiar with Taylor models but I'd never heard of a WC.  He responded that Taylor keeps coming out with "new stuff".  He got it down and it was a 214, but on their tag it did say WC.  I then noticed that same designation on several tags.  Anyone know what the heck that is?

I've seen this quite a lot with Guitar Center, if its on their tag it usually means "with case".

If it is a suffix to the Taylor model number printed on the sticker inside the body, then I'm less sure about it.

Also keep in mind w/ Guitar Center you should always verify if their pricing for a given guitar includes the case.  They break the case out from the guitar so they can track it in thier inventory.  Just thier way, but that's a clue to the "WC".

Also always look at the sticker through the soundhole, that will tell you the model and the serial # will tell you year/date information.

This is the new series of guitars that Taylor is trying out on the 200 series, called the Water Closet series.  :D Meant to be used when taking care of business. ;D

yes, I am aware of that.....as I said initially, the guitar was up high, the salesman needed to get a ladder to see it.

"With Case" is correct as it should be sold with the custom gig bag / soft case.

WC is the designation that GC uses - i'm pretty certain it doesn't stand for Water Closet ;)
i've seen the GB designation used on babies (301 & 305s - pre BT)
big babies (306 & 307s - pre BBT) & 100 series (110/114)

Yeah, that's their lame excuse they use to try and make you pay for a case that comes free with your Taylor guitar!!  I bought one guitar from GC and then got home and noticed they had charged me $75 for the case.  I promptly took it back and told them where to stick their guitar and case and the manager tried to sell me that inventory tracking crap, so I promptly told him where to stick that too!!  I checked prices for the same guitar at other locations and they were all selling the guitar(with case) for the same price I paid for the guitar at GC.  Needless to say, I won't ever do business at GC again!!

This is what happened with me when I bought a Taylor from GC:  Guitar+case sales price was (let's use) $3000.  When the salesperson "rang up" the sale, the GC system broke out the case as a seperate item from the guitar, and assigned a dollar amount for the guitar and a dollar amount for the case.  The total of the two dollar amounts still equalled $3000 guitar+case price.

Is this not what you have seen happen?  Just curious.

You know we are 614ce bretheren,    :)  I'm interested in understanding if GC mis-represented.

Another vote for WC = "With Case."  I think that it's sort of silly to even have TO HAVE a designation for whether or not a guitar comes with a case unless it's an ultra-cheap guitar.
