Baby Taylor Question
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:31:04 PM »
Hi fellow Taylor gurus.

I have a question I'd like to ask.

I was browsing on the Taylor Baby site and I realized there are 2 types of Baby Taylor.

My question is what are the main differences between the two other than the wood used? Is the sound any different from the two?

Sorry please don't flame me! I'm just looking around because I'm gonna buy a Baby Taylor for my little sister and I've only started to learn how to play the guitar recently...

Hi Ironsymphony!  Trust me...we don't allow flaming here!   ;)

We're very glad to have you as a part of our little community!  Please make yourself at home.

Both feature a solid top, one mahogany vs the other being spruce.  The spruce top will be a little brighter/punchier if you will...vs the mahogany will be a little warmer.  Just depends on what sound you're looking for!

You sound like an awesome sibling to buy your sis a Baby Taylor...I'm sure she'll love it!   ;D

Once again, glad to have you here!   :)

Like they've said, the only difference is the top wood.

My cousin wanted a Baby so I played a few next to each other and the mahogany top won every time, no question - and that was everyone's opinion, not just mine.

I think the spruce top make a baby sound like a baby, just boxy and not that great.

The hog top seemed to round off the ugly edges and made is sound like a real guitar, not just a toy.

All my opinion, of course

Wow guys, thanks so much for making me feel so welcomed!

And thanks for all the advice I've read. This really makes it easier to choose when we actually head over to get that guitar she's been itching for weeks now!

Late to the party, but yes, Welcome!

You'll find a good bunch here.  Well there is disagreement, which is of course healthy in that it incites debate and constructive discussion.  But no bashing here that I've seen so no worries, friend!

As for which BT, you need to find a shop with both.  Not easy, but you have to hear them both.  I did and chose the maple.  Others, to the contrary.  Your choice is the right one!  :)

Thank you all!

My little sister is bugging me DAILY till she gets it.

We'll head down to the store at the end of the month and I'll post some pictures when she finally has it in her arms!
