Finish on 2005 214--Pics added
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:26:25 PM »
Got a 2005 214 yesterday, and the finish is shiny. It's not really high gloss, but definitely not satin.Even the peg-head and back of the neck is shiny. The guitar is beautiful, sounds great, hardly any fret wear. The top is quite dark, more like it's 20yrs old.I ain't got a clue. The finish seems to be quite thin and professionally applied. Can anyone clue me in? How about it Michael? ::)

It's not that tough to buff out a satin finish to give it a bit more shine. I bet that's what happened with yours.

Got pics?

I believe Sachi's right. Just cleaned it up and restrung. There are un-gloss areas around the edge of the pickguard and bridge. i still love the way it looks. Had my brother play it so I could listen out front. GREAT open, full, loud sound.Oh yea ,I reset the neck also.

I started to gloss the back of my 314ce last summer--I have tendonitis in my forearms so I didn't do the entire guitar yet--so there is still more to go. Run your fingers lightly along the edges (near the binding but on the wood) and see if you can feel a difference in the finish there as compared to the middle of the back. The edges are the hardest part to buff out. I still need to work on the edges of the back because my fingers still create a swish sound and don't move as quickly as they do over the back's center.

It looks gorgeous, and I'm sure it sounds equally as great. Congratulations. :)
