Thoughts on the 2020 K26CE?
« on: June 22, 2020, 12:36:49 PM »
Hello

I am looking at the new K26CE all-Koa GS model with the sound hole in the cutaway.

What is the general opinion on these guitars, granted that it is such a polarising innovation?
I am actually quite surprised that there are only 5 YouTube videos.

Does anyone own one? Is it really a big difference in sounds compared to a standard V-braced GS?
These are quite expensive in the UK - £4400 ($5500) so I was wondering how they would keep the value.

Thanks

Have not tried this one, but it is on my short list to try this year.  In general I love the smoother tone of a hardwood top, although I've heard that koa has more brilliance than mahogany.  I've briefly tried both a 224ce-Koa and a K24ce in stores, and I was impressed with the tone of both of them - enough so that one day I'd like to bring in my beloved 324ce BE and do a side-by-side comparison.  I love the concept of the larger guitar and short scale - can't wait to try this redone grand symphony series, and this K26ce in particular.

I was going to start the same thread. I think the specs are very interesting and I’m one who sold a 2018 V-Class K24ce because frankly, tone-wise, it could not compare to any of my Martins. But, I’ll admit, I remain smitten by the appearance of Taylor’s Koa guitars. The key differentiators on this one are #1 short scale, #2 soundport, #3 Larger body, #4 light gauge strings. My hope is that the tone is less mid-range heavy than the K24ce. If so, I’d love to own one.

Congrats! I’ve noticed from pics on Reverb that there is a tremendous variance in the appearance of the Koa from unit to unit. Would love to see pics of yours.

Beautiful koa on that top. For those who have trouble getting used to the sound port, it's a much easier transition on a dark topped guitar. I'll bet it sounds wonderful. Congrats!

Gorgeous.  I don’t think you even see the port while playing. And I like the fact they designed it so that the back is normal (not cutaway). Also like the ebony construction and it’s variation from guitar to guitar. Stunning design by Powers. I want one and I haven’t even played it yet.
