New Taylor GS Mini-e Koa which has some string buzz

I have a new Taylor GS Mini-e Koa which has some string buzz. It appears to be the D string when played open, 1st and secon frets.

I spoke to Taylor on live chat who gave me a dealer to see who has moved from the address given. I live in a Country area along way from any other Taylor dealer. I realize I will have to get it them somehow.

I noticed it day 1, thought I would give it a week with DDarriao 2 way humidity packs, no change.

But meantime, anyone has any ideas about the problem, the nut slot must be to low for the D string? Perhaps a truss adjustment is needed?

While it is most likely what you think, just a thought here. When my 812ce was new it buzzed when playing a D note, and I thought fret buzz, but further inspection revealed a loose  board related to the ES system, or a loose component on the board. It was replaced by the local Platinum level Taylor tech( not 2 miles from my house, I am so lucky that way) and has never been a problem since. Tracking down a buzz can be hard, but once fixed you will have a great guitar, and Taylor will take care of it. Good luck and report back please with the results.

That's interesting, I think I have heard of someone else having a similar experience, it certainly possible, as you have experienced it. I may go and get a set of feeler gauges and see what the clearance is under the string and fret.

My only concern is getting it to an authorized Taylor tech. That means boxing it up and shipping it

Could be humidity or need a truss rod tweak. I bought a GS Mini E Rosewood about a month ago. I noticed it was getting some fret buzz and it wasn't due to humidity or insufficient neck relief so I checked it with a fret rocker. I found a few high frets. Even though it has a warranty I decided I'd go ahead and level/crown the high frets. That eliminated the fret buzz on mine.

Something else I have noticed is if I use a pick, no buzz if I play the D string with my thumb it buzzes. I play fingerstyle most of the time.

The GC has asked me to record a video of the problem so their tech can try and diagnose the problem. If it's just the truss rod I'm happy to nip that, anything else I'm not touching it.

You are not alone. I seems to be common problem for Mexican made Taylors. I used to have exactly the same with open D string on my 214-K-DLX. The wires vibrate inside. Slightly pull the wires off the side, and the buzz will gone. Or put an extra wire clip.

Thanks for the tip, I guess I will need to remove the strings and get a telescopic mirror. Your the 2nd person to mention something loose internally has caused a buzz.

I had a buzz on the high E on my mini. It took a quarter turn on the truss rod to adjust it out. It was an easy fix.

The buzz seems to have gone, it most certainly humidity related, now acclimatized.

I did promise a couple of photos which are attached. Loving this guitar has a big voice and a sweet tone.

They say a Koa guitar takes a long time to find its voice, well if that's true, that will be nice, if not it sounds nice now already.

Great looking top especially there Pete. Glad the buzz went away, that is really good news.
