Question - is the Original Taylor T5 still in production
« on: March 03, 2019, 09:10:24 AM »
Hello All,
I have been playing around with getting a T5.  In my area its not easy to locate one in local shops but I have been able to play several from friends of friends.  All have been the original T5 not the T5z.

Does anyone know if the original T5 is still in production or is Taylor only making the T5z now.

Thanks

-  Mike

There is no mention of it in the latest Wood & Steel, nor was there at last November's Road Show held locally.  They seem to be "all in" on the T5z, which is too electric for my tastes.  I have a Les Paul clone that I already don't play, so there is no need for a semi-acoustic version.  Glad I have a T5 classic.....
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.

I have a T5z and it’s a great guitar when used amplified.  Acoustically not so much.  Amplified it is very flexible and can deliver good acoustic, great jazz and rock tones.  It has a learning curve to find the settings to get the tones you want but does not disappoint!

Thanks all,
I still have not had a chance to play a T5z (hard to find locally) so can only go by what I have read on it compared to the original.
I have read its neck is  Les Paulish in feel, I am not a big fan of Les Paul's don't like the neck on them myself.  That being said  I am still hoping to get a chance to try one out.  I need to see for myself how it feels.
I do see the original still available in a couple of places plus used ones appear to be available so if I decide on the original.

Thank you all for the replies and info.
I did actually finally get the official from Taylor.
The T5 is out of production.  Only the T5Z is in production now.
I was able to locate a T5-C1  and now am the proud owner.

Thanks again.

Mike
