Nice to see you over here Woogey! Can we call you Woogey? OK, sorry, I didn't think so.
Really nice guitar. I've got an adi topped guitar that seems like it goes to sleep if not played in a while. Takes a good bit of playing to wake her up. That's why I play her a lot! Have you experience this?
Haven't heard a Taylor with Adirondack, but I'd bet they do a really nice job with it!
It does tighten up when not played, but never takes more than about 10 minutes to warm up, and that seems to get better with time. My guitar is going on four years old and I would say the top is opening up very nicely. To put it in perspective though, it never played with less headroom than any of my guitars I have had that were Sitka. It reminds me of the way a fine car runs after properly warmed up.
"coming home to place [you've] never been before" ...
Welcome wooglins! I am very interested in this wood combo. The current next Taylor in my mind these days is some sort of Spruce with Cocobolo in GA/x14 shape/size ... tell about your tone and what you like about Coco versus, say, Rosewood ...
As for the tone it is Rosewood so a comparison wood be with other rosewoods like EIR, Maddi, etc. I would say with the Adirondack top and Adi CV bracing it is similar, but has more clarity. No less bottom end (actually more with the Adi top). Each string plays very evenly with no freq. range standing out above the others. Its a player which is why it is the only guitar in my stable now. The only thing I would change would be to have a GC in the exact same config for playing on the couch, but that would be a waste of money as the GS does that fine.
I would attribute the clarity to the density of the Cocobolo back and sides and the dynamic nature of a good Adi top. My particular set of Cocobolo is quartersawn, and many are flatsawn (highly figured an beautiful no doubt). My back is very similar in appearance to EIR as far as the figuring, and tap wise is very dense, much more so than EIR, and similar to the Maddie 716 I had. I think the Maddie 716 would have performed similarly with Adi CV bracing and an Adi top.
