Want to modify my 514ce ltd 2010. Which tuners?
« on: June 03, 2014, 12:11:51 PM »
2010 model with spruce top and koa back and sides.  I'd like to go with different tuners, though I've never changed them out before.  Any suggestions on which type you think  might look best?

Not my actual guitar, but an example...  http://soundexchange2.com/taylor514celtdgrandauditoriumkoakoafalllimited2010.aspx

Any particular style you see for my particular guitar?  Style of Gotoh's, I mean.

I wonder if these would work on regular Taylor tuners?

In theory, they should since Grovers and Pings have appeared to be interchangeable in my experience... $20 is not a huge investment so it might be worth the risk.

standard size gotoh 510s are what comes on the 900 & PSs -
http://www.japarts.ca/Gotoh/Gotoh-Products-SG510.asp

they don't show the antique gold finish, either bright or aged gold, but i've seen pics where the
antique gold finish rubbed off so that the buttons appeared partially glossy, rather than matte

i've put grover buttons (GRO-1020E) on Taylor branded ping tuners, but the
buttons were made by grover, rather than a company that just sells buttons -
the gotoh contour buttons are being copied, probably because they're rather popular

Well I made a best offer and got them, so I'm not out much if they don't work.

I'm pleased with the outcome.  They fit fine.  A nice inexpensive upgrade that matches the back and sides nicely.  One with flash and one without.

Yeah, I was originally thinking new tuners altogether because I was tired of the gold.  But I found the buttons cheap, so I figured if they fit I'd try that first and see how that goes.
