decisions, decisions...
« on: July 16, 2013, 09:39:59 PM »
i can't for the life of me decide which Gotoh's i wanna get for my incoming 616ce. with the honeyburst color, i'm adding a lion's head truss rod cover( thank you acmesupergenius ) figured if the guitar was lion colored, might as well have the head too.
i love the vintage gold on my spring ltd, but i think i'm going for the gold if the tuner buttons are replaceable... are they?
and i would assume the i would want the mid and not the minis right?

I'd wait till the guitar shows up then you'll have a better idea on the color. Get the medium size Gotoh 510z, preferably the 21:1  gear ratio.

The buttons are replaceable.

StewMac has the Gotoh 18:1's (you want the midsize):

You will have to drill some holes.

I bought a truss rod cover from acmesupergenius a few years ago. He's a hoot and does fine work. BTW: Your lion head TRC is awesome.  8)

ebay taylorgirl. seller is acmesupergenius. handmade, not the sticker ones you see all over. yellow MOP and mussel shell inlay. Scott, the seller, handmakes each one and they're customizable if you want. i'm gonna have him make me a flame one to fit on my '08 Hot Rod next i think.
yeah code, i ordered the gold mids, now i'm on the hunt for good ebony(or maybe a blonde wood?) buttons.

I like to choose buttons based on the headstock overlay and its binding. In the case of your 616, ebony would probably work best. I haven't seen ebony replacement buttons, but I did order macassar buttons for my 2011 bto:

i found some ebony ones on ebay for just 14 bucks but, i don't know the quality of them. i guess its just 14 bucks, if i dont like them i could always find a home somewhere for them. i was hoping someone here would know of a place or someone that could make some lighter colored ones that would go with the lion theme.

I found you some Gotoh replacement wood buttons. They have bloodwood, cocobolo, snakewood, and ebony.

Darn things cost almost as much as the tuners themselves.
