This might be stupid but...
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:42:28 AM »
I can't figure out how to change the local time on my profile?  Is this possible?  For instance, it's saying 8:30am and it's 11:30am where I am - anyway to change it to EST from PST?

hi iamtaylor -
it takes a little bit of doing to change the time & it's not
particularly intuitive, imho, but such is the forum software

mouse over 'profile'
click on 'account settings'
mouse over 'modify profile'
click on 'look & layout'

click on 'auto-detect' or
put 3 in the 'time offset' box

click on 'change profile' at the lower right

it seems a lot of steps to change the time & i'm wondering if there is a FAQ area
for certain forum functions (changing PM setting so sent messages are saved, etc) ...
can't seem to find it, but here are some other links for tips on using other settings as well

That worked thanks Michael.

Well, I guess I must have missed it - that worked - thanks for answering my silly question.

you're welcome :)

sure thing :)
i don't think it's a silly question at all -
i had to change the time myself & also had to set it again for daylight savings time

what is kind of silly is that i don't see a FAQ (frequently asked question) section, or at least
a 'sticky' ??? on how to use certain areas of the forum ... i'll have to ask Josh about that one :-\

While we are on the subject of settings, can you make a font size and type permanent instead of having to change it each time you reply to a message?

unfortunately, SMF (the platform for this forum) does not have an option for an individual user, mod or admin,
to set a default font that can be used on each post, without having to  highlight text, select 'font face',
'font size', 'change color' & 'B'(old), if desired, every time ... i'd be nice to have, but it is not supported :(

Josh can change the overall default font, size & color, but that also affects the appearance of posts
that are using different settings (other than default) & can, in turn, make some posts harder to read
