Fishman Replacement
« on: July 28, 2018, 01:21:34 PM »
Forgive this newb to the forum as this has probably been answered multiple times, but my rudimentary searches through the forum have left me with no clear direction:

I have a 1996 410CE with the Fishman electronics of the time.  Recently it has started dying on stage. I know it is the electronics, and probably a bad cap. It finally bit the proverbial dust at a gig last week leaving me 2 known options.

1. Troubleshoot the electronics/send it out to an electronics shop to see if they can fix it. - not off the table as I am comfortable with soldering components if necessary. I am equally comfortable with paying someone to solder for me.

2. Replace the Fishman.  Is there a system that will just "drop in" to the existing Fishman hole with no cutting/drilling required? I have read the Fishman Plus T (Wide) will.

3.? - I will defer to the expertise of this forum.

I think the fishman +T will fit, but a quick call to fishman should tell you. I have it in my Rainsong guitars and it seems an ok system although I mostly play unplugged, so take that with a grain of salt. I do use the Fishman Loudbox mini when plugged in at home.

I've never had one die, but mine are 2001 vintage - yours is older, and more heavily used.  The least disruptive thing would be to call Fishman and get whatever direct replacement unit they recommend.  They might also be able to refurbish your unit, but will more likely suggest a swap.  LR Baggs also made units to fit into Fishman holes, so that might be another option.

hacknsmack---FWIW:  'while Fishman's phone support system had been in "we're experiencing unusually high call volume, plz call back later" mode whenever I've called them (which poss may have been only twice), on the 2 or 3 occasions when I E-mailed them with questions, I'd get a polite & helpful response the next day...good luck

Good info, Kim.  I'm old school - my first instinct is to call rather than be one of hundreds of anonymous emails that come in that day.

Just a quick thank you to all who replied - Yes, 3 years ago but I had forgotten I asked this forum. I replaced with the exact same, but updated with a tuner, Fishman. It dropped right in. 2 wires, 4 screws. Probably took me 10 minutes. Been gigging with it ever since.
