Title: greetings from the land of trolls and cheese
Post by: sacredground on February 25, 2019, 02:40:15 PM
Could be the land of Trolls is Norway, but add some cheese and you get Wisconsin.

Wrapping up a purchase of either a V class 914ce or 614ce...both are compelling instruments.

Tomorrow is the day.
Wife is on board.

I too live in Wisconsin...  knew it was Wisconsin based on your subject line.

Welcome to the forum.  Have you been to Dave's yet?  I know there is a 914ce V class hanging on the wall.  Will it be gone the next time I visit the store?  Hrmm?

Welcome from the land of Tolls and fees, New Jersey.  Nice choice you have there.  Been giving airtime to my 614ce lately......

I'm from the land of trolls, being from Northern Lower Michigan (a troll being someone who lives beneath the bridge.....get it?).
I figured the cheese part meant Wisconsin. Welcome, I love cheese.  ;D

Been to Dave’s back when I thought I wanted a Collings! Cream City has been good to me.

Thanks. Trolls seem to live in caves or under bridges...depending on who you talk to. I fear THAT bridge.

If we are talking about that bridge (The Mackinac Bridge), I love that bridge.  Having grown up in south east Michigan, I loved going up and crossing the bridge.   Nothing better on a nice summer day.

Been to cream city music before Dave’s opened in Madison.  Not that many Taylor Guitars in stock at cream city though.

Welcome sacred ground! You have two marvelous guitars to choose from. I recently took possession of a 614 V class, and it really compliments the other Taylors in my stable. I am very excited for you.

Enjoy your stay!

Thanks...tonight I go and make my choice! The shop ordered in a new 914ce since the one I originally played was sold the next day. Played the koa B.E. and it didn’t do anything for me. Love your quote in Latin. Simul justis et pecator.

It's a beautiful bridge and straits area. I've been across it probably 100 times. It isn't scary on a nice sunny summer day, but it gets pretty treacherous during the winter, especially when it is windy. It has been closed quite a few times this winter due to falling ice, wind, and whiteout conditions. Just again on Sunday, due to falling ice and blizzard conditions.

Then I must be a bridge troll, definitely not a cave troll.  ;)

I see you chose the 914ce.  Great guitar.  Now it really did not happen until you post pictures.   Also did you go with natural or sunburst?   I have the 916ce and you will love it even more as you play it and it opens up more.  Now start saving for the 614ce you were considering.  That makes an awesome second guitar.  Or I should say second Taylor.  They like having friends.

Congrats on the new 914ce. Hopefully you can find the time to post a NGD thread where we can see some pictures.

Your new musical soul mate sounds great based on your description.  May you have many years of only sweet notes. Congrats and enjoy!

Thanks Jeff! Yes it shows great promise as it opens up. Doing an overnight ToneRight treatment to get it started. I went with natural. Love to hear your review on the 916 - does it have  a top bevel? Pictures are forthcoming. Today I get it dialed in to our sound system to be ready for Sunday morning. When I sell my Charis I’ll think about the 614, HAHA! My wife asked me to enjoy the new guitar for a while, yet.

I already have pictures of the 916ce posted here.  However, here is a peak at it.  This is from this past August while on vacation.  I need to see some warm weather again.  Yes, it has the arm rest.  All 900 series have that.  Actually it will look almost exactly like your 914ce except the following:

Its not V-class so it has a bone nut and not black graphite.
Its a GS not a GA so overall with is 1/4 inches wider and a little wider over all.
It has a Florentine cutaway rather than a Venetian cutaway.

Regarding a review of it...  since I am only into the start of my second year of playing...  I can only say what I like about it vs my guitars I owned at the time of purchase.

I already had a 414ce Special Edition which had an Engelmann Spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides.  The 916 was louder with less effort.  It handled my aggressive beginner strumming better than my 414ce did.  It is hard to describe what triggered my love at first strum.  But, this guitar had something in its tone that the 816ce (also Sitka Spruce and Indian rosewood) that I also played when I first played the 916ce didn't.  I also have a custom 414ce that has Engelmann spruce top and maple back and sides.  This guitar sounds nothing like the 916ce.  I have not yet did a side by side to a new 614ce BE.

I like bone, and just ordered a bone saddle for my 914. Sounds like your 916 spoke to you...isn’t that what it’s all about?
