Title: Difference between 814ce 1st edition Vs 814ce Deluxe ?
Post by: Redwood Tree on January 27, 2019, 01:52:25 PM
Besides the little headstock inlay what's the difference between  814ce 1st ED. and a 814ce Deluxe ?
I lost track of builds of year to year.  Thanks

If you mean the previous X-braced 814ce DLX (2018 and earlier), the only differences are the 814ce First Edition had standard gold tuners (not Gotohs like the DLX), an F.E. label in the guitar, an F.E. badge on the case, and no radial armrest(like the DLX). And there were only 200 FEs made.

If you mean the current 2019 V-class 814ce DLX, then the other additional differences are the FE has X-bracing (not v-class like the DLX) and adirondack bracing. (The v-class guitars do not have adirondack bracing.)

Yes I was asking about the X-Braced one's up to 2017. I think you pretty much answered my question.
I 've also seen some 1st editions come with Guatemalan rosewood , but not all of them.

I'm guessing you saw the one I just sold or one I've posted about in this forum (http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=7974.msg93941#msg93941), because I used to own one. In any case, Sweetwater had a custom batch (50 units) made with honduran rosewood and called them "First Edition" 814ce DLX models. I actually suspected you were asking about mine, but I didn't answer that question, I answered the one you asked.  8)

So, just to keep it all straight, what I originally answered above is the difference between an 814ce First Edition x-brace vs. a 814ce DLX x-brace, and then between an 814ce First Edition vs. a 814ce DLX v-class.

"My" 814ce First Edition DLX is neither of those. Clear as mud?

I assume yours was on Reverb?  I kinda figured he was asking about that one (yours?) myself.  I must say from the photos it is absolutely gorgeous.  I noticed it didn't last long either, little wonder!  Had the timing been right I would have loved to beat the buyer to the punch on that one.  I imagine the sound rivaled the looks as well, no?

Yes, sounded like an opened up guitar from day one. Alas, my hands were telling me they'd be more comfortable with a short scale guitar, hence the sale. There was a lot of drama with the shipment of that guitar to the buyer - UPS misplaced it for over a week! Ended up in one of their warehouses along the way. Fortunately they found and delivered it eventually.

taylor is getting confused but guitarsan is right

814ce first edition - gold tuners, adi x brace, FE label - to celebrate the recoiled 800s with a 3.5 mil finish

814ce dlx x brace - adi bracinf, radial armrest, silver gotohs

814ce dlx v class - sitka bracing, radial armrest, gotohs

the color of the tuners i wrote may be wrong but you get the idea

I guess the silver lining there are plenty of gorgeous looking and sound 12 fretters out there as well, but it probably hurt to sell that beauty.  As if that isn't enough, UPS "misplaced" it???  How does that even happen?  Geez, I bet you and the buyer were freaking.  That can't happen very often and of all things your guitar...

Guitarsan,

I am the one who purchased that Taylor you guys are talking about. It was actually for my son. He uses it regularly and in a capacity in which many others have been able to enjoy the sound. It was unfortunate with what happened with shipping. Had me worried.

It was and still is something that is treasured for the beauty and the sound of the guitar. I read through this post, and realized you are the one who sold it to us on reverb, so I wanted to update and tell you that it is probably the best guitar purchase I have ever made. Thanks for the deal back then, and for taking such meticulous care of it. I thought you deserved an update and a "thank you!"
