Hi from Southeast Texas. My wish to add a Taylor to my modest guitar collection recently came true beyond my wildest dream. My Mother called a week or two back and asked to speak to my wife in private. After they talked a while my wife came in and said that they wanted to surprise me but they could not figure out exactly what guitar I wanted. My mother had seen a Facebook post where I commented on playing one of the new V-Class Taylor guitars at the local GC. I had failed to mention a model number. I remember talking about how great it sounded with the V bracing and how I could never justify spending that much for a guitar no matter how much I wanted it (my wife and I are teachers). I told them I had played a 714ce, we looked up the price and Mom told me to go get it. When I got down to the store all they had was an 814ce Deluxe V-Class, Mom said go ahead and get that one instead, darn the luck right?

Congratulations KA5EIZ. Ya it is a shame you could not have been able to pick up the 714ce and had to go with a 814ce Dlx, I sure hope you are able to learn to enjoy it ;).

Sometimes you just have to settle for what you can get and learn to be happy with it!

congrats on the guitar, very cool story!

Welcome to the forum! I'm a brand new member as well. Enjoy the 814ce, I love this line. Also, would you let your mom know I am well behaved (for my age) and quite open to being adopted? :P

Next time a willing enabler decides you need another guitar, take them to a Taylor Road Show. I did so with my wife, and came home with a Custom GC 12-fret with a Sinker Redwood top and AA Rosewood back and sides, sort of a super 812/912. Courtesy of my wife, of course.

You received a fine, fine instrument! But, you KNOW that. :)
Great story!
