How long must I be a "Newbie"? When do you become a full member etc.?
-
I do have the ability to modify the post counts to change member status. The below count is what comes standard with the SMF software. Maybe we need to change that?????
Newbie 0
Jr. Member 50
Full Member 100
Sr. Member 250
Hero Member 500
I did update the number of posts to the following (actually, I'd be fine without any type of "ranking" system)
Newbie 0
Jr. 50
Full 100
Sr. 200
Hero. 300
I'll also change the name from "newbie" to something else and the "hero" member to something else. stay tuned.
"newbie" has been changed to just "new member" and I'm still thinking about a name to replace "hero."
"Hero" has been changed to "Veteran."

How about "virtuoso"?
BTW, I think "n00b" is the best for us low-number posters. I always get a laugh out of l33t speak. (Translation – "leet speak", short for "elite speak.")
-
Or Maestro?
-
How about "I spend too much time posting and not enough time playing" ;D

One of the motorcycle forums has changed the levels from newbie, jr, full, etc to more topical, playful labels.
I don't recall all of them but they are along the lines of Moped, Scooter, Streetbike, and Iron Butt.
We (you) could do something similar, guitar-related.
And they don't even have to make a whole ton of sense, as nobody here probably cares much about 'rank' on an internet forum. ::)
They could just be fun.
I'm sure you could get suggestions on potential labels; picker, strummer, shredder, axeman, etc.....
:)

Have you considered offering charter memberships to absorb the cost of your running this for our benefit? To me encouraging a limited membership to constantly post will become boring. We'll all know each others brands of strings and model preferences etc. Graph Tech and Taylor will have to expand their lines to keep the chatter going! It's interesting to me that regardless of whether one posts on this site, AGF, UMGF, SCGF, Harmony, or Collings forum if you ask for string recommendations everyone loves to respond with their recommendations in large numbers. From what I have found from my own personal experience, which granted is limited, if you love the basic tone of your guitar a string brand or formula will affect it minimally. Searching for the perfect string set = not liking the basic tone of your guitar. It's the wood combination or the size of the box that is the problem for ones ear and it's hard to admit that we've bought the wrong box! It certainly is for me! I should have bought either a GA8 or GA6!

I couldnt care less what I am called . Just don't call me late for supper.
I'm wondering what is the difference how many posts you have , does it elevate one to a higher standing in the world, or is it just vanity...In some of the forums out there it seems some people just post for the sake of posting, with nothing meaningful to say or add to that particular forum.. just saying..............................
;) ;)
