What song are you currently learning and practicing? How long have you been working on it and how are you progressing? Are you struggling with it?
I'm working on 'Till There Was you" by Meredit Wilson, as performed by The Beatles. I've been working on it for a few days and am finally starting to get the hang of the more tricky elements. I am far from mastering it, but I feel like I am well on the way. Eventually I'll be using my looper to really nail it. For me it's pretty challenging.
I keep procratinating on my own song, but I want to use some of the techniques I'm learning for writing it.

i am working on a new version of whiskey before breakfast and beaumont rag. they seem to be progressing smoothly i spent about a week on beaumont rag and one day on whiskey before breakfast, i was just learning a new version.

I have been working on Rylynn by Andy McKee for a month and a half I have been struggling with some of the timing but I made ahold amount of progress today actually. So I am hopeful. The tune is so technically above my level many little things are a challenge and a demand individual practice on my part.
I was working on Angelina by Tommy Emmanuel. I kind of go back and forth between the two. But it is the same story Way above my technical level.

It's more like I am working on a group of things. I've been playing some Black Crowes "Remedy", "She Talks to Angels", some Led Zep - "Hey, Hey What Can I do" The Band "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek" (played all in standard tuning as I don't switch to the recorded tuning key of these songs) then for a break some Maybelle Carter "Wildwood Flower" and others. I really like the Carter style.
I would like to some day learn the solo to "My Sharona" I have it about 1/3 done but nowhere near the speed needed for it to actually sound like the song.

I've also been working on a few things besides 'Till There Was You." The other night I mastered "Angie" (Rolling Stones), which I've been playing for a long time, but listened a little more closely and figured out a better, more accurate way to play it. I'm constantly practicing "Never Going Back Again" (Fleetwod Mac) and most of the intro down, but I still have a long way to go. It's very challenging. I am also working on "I'm Your Captain" (Grand Funk) and "Give Me Love" (George Harrison). I have both down pretty good, it's just a matter of practing to get them more smooth. Been fooling around with "Crossroads" (Eric Clapton) a bit too. With all that, however, right now my main focus is "Till There Was You."

Guitar class wise, we have just been given 'I'll Be Your Baby Tonight' by Dylan. This is a bit of a struggle as I'm still not very good at barre chords; Bb is a bit of a nightmare. Another struggle I'm having with this, is that the only version I'd heard had been by a UK band called UB40 with Robert Palmer; a really great version with a reggae beat that really sticks in your head, but not what the class tutor wants.
On my own, I'm working on 'Hallelujah'; found a nice version on YouTube that I'm trying to get my fingers around.
And finally, I'm trying to work out how Springsteen plays his 'My Father's House'. I've got the sheet music and chords, but I'm struggling to work out the picking pattern.
So all in all plenty to keep me going for a while :)

.......I'm still not very good at barre chords......
One thing that is really helping me with barre chords is that I have been practicing the CAGED system up the neck. Getting those chords down and then playing at a decent tempo has been a challenge. I practice the C, F, and G chords at the 3, 5, 7, 8,and 10 frets.

Cheers, I wasn't familiar with the CAGED system, but have started reading-up on it and will give it a try.
Trying to form the the chords and do it cleanly is indeed a challenge and I've got quite a way to go; but things are bettter than they were a year ago :)

Try playing Help! by The Beatles. Not a difficult song to play and that neat little decending George Harrison arpeggio riff that repeats several time is fun and a little tricky.

Beatles- Hard Day's Night (with fake first chord)
Lots of people working on Beatles songs here. Interesting.

Jim- for sure. Great music stands the test of time. This music is 40-50 years old, and people are still enjoying it. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just can't see hardly anyone making pop music today with that kind of genius and staying power.

Probably because there are few, if any that can...

I'm working on 'Till There Was you" by Meredit Wilson, as performed by The Beatles.
Love the Beatles version! Learned that one myself.
I've been on a James Taylor kick lately. Learned "Fire and Rain" and now working on "Handy Man" and "You've Got a Friend."

It's only been about too months since I've been back at playing again, so I've been doing a LOT of exercises recently. As TaylorPlayer516 mentioned, I've also been working on some of the CAGED stuff lately.
I've recently worked my way through "Wildwood Flower"... short sweet, and fun to play. I've been trying to work out Big Bill Broonzy's "Hey, Hey" (another very fun tune), but it's been tough finding a good version to learn from. Today I started on Wayfaring Stranger. I got a version with a some flatpicking that I like. Not an overly challenging tune, but nice none the less. I'm thinking that that Dire Straits, "Romeo and Juliet" will be next on the list... we'll see.

I'm a simplistic player.
Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone"
Dionne Warwick's "Killing Me Softly"
Eagles "Hotel California", "Lying Eyes"
Low's "Something's Turning Over", "Done", "Violence"
Great Lake Swimmers "Palmistry", "I'm Still"
Grandaddy's "El Caminos in the West"
and of course, multiple Neil Young tunes...
-
Niel Young is always one of my favorites to play.

"Tangled Up In Blue" by Bob Dylan. I've had the music down for some time, but for whatever reason I'm having a hard time with some of the verses.

It's called "old age" Phil! ;) And no offense intended, I'm speaking more about myself here than you.
Uh, what were we just talking about?

Can you say "American Pie" ...sheesh, like what, 17 verses?!!! :D
I picked 5 and left it at that :D

I actually memorized the whole song to play at gigs. People love the song and sing along with a big happy smile...till about verse 3, then they start to stare at you like you have lost your mind. I will sometimes end with it for fun, but I don't really play it anymore.

On an Irish Folk kick lately ... working on 2 or 3 Irish Reels/Jigs on Tenor Guitar, Banjo and Acoustic Guitar ...
On electric, I am revisiting some hymn medleys I put together many years ago ...
Just having fun really ... jumping on whatever strikes me day to day ...

I decided that I want to learn to play Freight Train. It seems like a good way to practice fingerstyle playing...

I'm working on something new for me: an unaccompanied, single line melody, using either a pick or fingers, on "Ashokan Farewell." Why? Well, because I've never been much of a "lead" player, and that melody is capable of being so very expressive. I can play the notes now, but am not yet satisfied with the way I play the notes, nor the feel I'm getting with the ornamentation or grace notes.
I've tried it in D, G and A, but so far favor the way it sounds in D. When will it be finished? Probably never. I'm not sure it's even possible to reach a point where I'll have nothing left to learn.

I just completed working on a solo finger style version of Lorenna McKennitt's "Dante's Prayer" in DADGAD tuning. Been working on it for about two months. I have the whole thing arranged the way I like it, and I can play it through pretty well. Not smooth enough for a performance, but well enough for now. Knowing my past history, it will be at least six months before I can play it really smooth and well.
I just started working on Eltjo Hasselhof's "The Mayo Jar". I downloaded the first page of the TAB from his web site while I'm waiting for the full purchased version to arrive. Been working on it on and off for about two weeks, and I can slowly bump my way through the first page of the TAB. This is the first time I ever tried anything in Orkney tuning, and I like it. I've fumbled a couple of self-composed musical segments and melodies playing around in this tuning.

I've got three I've been working on over the past week or so:
Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution - Black Crowes
Born to Run - Emmylou Harris
Try Not To Breathe - REM

Here's something maybe a little different. I fell in love with a latin-type ballad called "Solamente Una Vez" (also known as "You Belong to My Heart") by Augustin Lara. I have it on a recording by the great Cuban jazz pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and the famous American jazz bassist Charlie Haden, plus other musicians. The name of the album, case you're interested, is "Land of the Sun", listed under Charlie Haden, and it's available at iTunes. It's the best stuff, if you're into jazz at all.
So, I have the lead sheet for this song; it's in E flat major and the changes aren't too complicated. I'm trying to work out a chord melody approach to it. I have the lead/melody nailed down and now the hard part starts.
