I don't know if I am alone in not enjoying having a hard plastic clip and dowel so close to my wood guitars, but I really really don't care for D'addario's new holder system.
Solution- Boveda (they make the humidipak anyway) now has the saddle type 2 pouch holder available. I am including a link to Amazon but of course they can be found elsewhere. FYI-instead of a double pouch and single pouch, they include 2 double pouches in this package, so I was able to repurpose some of my old holders and cover the sound holes of 2 Taylors with one of these.
Happy to find an alternative, hope this helps someone.

I too have the Boveda and from what the instructions said one double pack was for the sound hole and the other double pack to be placed near the peg head.
It keeps my guitar between 52% and 53% humidity.

No link in your post, Dave.
I'm also not a fan of the 'dowel-and-clip' sound hole pouch. I find those pouches work fine (sans the dowel and clip) for my T5's (where the pouch just gets placed next to the guitar body in the cutaway area) and my GS Mini (which has the ES-Go installed, which precludes either pouch design from going into the sound hole, so I just slide the pouch across the sound hole opening underneath all six strings). So I'm glad to hear there's a saddlebag-type pouch available again!

Sorry guys, there is the link.

Cool, these seem much nicer than the new potentially dangerous d addario pouches!
I have had fine results just putting the humidity packs in zip locks with about 300 fork holes.
I just lay a couple zip lock bags on a cutting board and "tenderize" with a fork.
Cheap and pretty leakproof.
Thanks for the tip
Cheers!

I just bought the Planet Waves system.
They have eliminated the plastic between the double pouch and it now closely resembles the earlier style.
-
I still use the original Humidipak pouches with the Boveda inserts. So it sounds like they use 4 packs per guitar instead of 3 like were originally used?
-
I have the Planet Waves cloth holders, and have been using the insert packets. They dry out within 2 weeks, but can be "recharged" with a damp cloth several times. Do the Boveda inserts work any better, or last longer?
-
This is what I use, simple and then I run a vaporizer in the room.

I think I'll try that next. I recently picked up an Oasis Guitar Humidifier which is easy to use and refillable, but the cap sticks up too high and contacts the super-snug case for my 412. So I'm currently using the Planet Waves model, but the packets can't be effectively recharged and the replacement packs are expensive. During the winter, they go bone dry in 2 weeks.

A couple of months ago, I bought a D'Addario two-way humidification system and was disappointed to see that they had changed the design. I bought a couple 2 years ago, which had the plastic spine for the soundhole fitting. This spine effectively sealed the bag, something that D'Addario made a big deal of, then. I didn't have any problems with the plastic - haven't caused any damage with it. The new design is difficult to use because the saddlebags remain unsealed and the open ends catch on the strings when removing them - Sellotape helps, but hey, they're expensive enough - shouldn't need to do that!. The Boveda design looks the same from the Amazon photos but I can't see if the saddlebags seal or not - can anyone clarify that, please? I'm at the point of not using D'Addario when it comes to replacements.

I have never had a problem inserting or removing the saddle bags. Work fine for me. YMMV

The Bovida is similar and open, but larger enough and the pouch seems to close over the unit without any Velcro or anything. I have both and I notice what you say with the D'addario but I just pulled out the Bovida last night and they certainly didn't get hung up on the strings. Funny to see this today as I just noticed that last night.
This all assumes Bovida hasn't changed since I bought them...

I have the old style D'Addario double pouch and an Oasis. Everyone talks about
the Humidipak going dry in a few weeks (or less) and mine are still soft after 6 months
while the Oasis needs a refill in a week or two. I don't know if I can trust the Humidipaks.
For now I am just using the Oasis.

It's been my experience that the HumidiPaks will last much longer during the summer months, when the humidity level is generally higher. i've had a set in the 414ce that I drag around to remote job sites (most recently Lexington, KY and Huntsville, AL), and they've remained pretty 'squishy' for several months now. But during the winter months in Lexington, the packs dried out in a few weeks to a month.
During the winter, depending on where one is located in the country, they can dry out in only a few weeks; the winter air is typically much dryer, and some furnaces and heating systems can exacerbate the problem by drying the air even more.

If I may give my opinion.. It is the same solution in the packs within each brand. What matters is the delivery method. I have bought and used D'Addario/Planet Waves System (post 2015) for 2 guitars and did not care for the hard sharp plastic resting on the stings above the sound hole.
I just tried the Boveda and prefer the product. I just bought two more to replace the D'Addario's. I like the soft cloth saddle bag over the plastic clip on, and if a sell one of my guitars, I think the buyer would be pleased as well to see this as well. ~Peace, Love & Independent Rock n Roll
