I have a new 416CE fall ltd with matte back and sides, I would love to have gloss. I saw the 410CE in the classifieds and the owner said it came matte, but is now gloss.... curious as to how this is done...

That looks great. Thanks. Any ideas if this voids the Taylor warranty?

Polishing the satin finishes won't void the entire warranty, but I doubt you would be able to count on having finish issues covered. That being said, problems related to the finish are very, very rare. I think (and do not have any authority-I am supposing here) they would probably view the polishing as wear and tear, as it was the result of physical action outside the normal warranty anyway. As always, it might be best to call Customer Service and ask them first. 800 943-6782.

i would imagine, if anything, that only the finish warranty would be affected,
for instance if the finish were to crack, bubble or peel off at a later date
from what i've heard, satin finish is a 2 coat application, with a diffuser to make it matte &
the gloss finish is 4 to 5 coats, with a good bit of hand sanding, robotic & hand buffing
also, i am uncertain if there is a special procedure or tool required to remove the ES knobs,
in order to facilitate the process of polishing the area around the onboard pre-amp controls -
i've done some searching & at this point i've come up with goose eggs

I started the process on my 314ce, but because I have such bad problems with forearm tendonitis, I've only finished most of the back. Since I don't have much strength in my arms, I found the Scratch-X just wasn't working well at all for me. A few coats later, and I was quite a distance from the desired result. I switched to Flitz and it cut through quickly leaving me with a nice semi-gloss. When I do get around to work on the sides, I'll bring those up to a semi-gloss then work on the back and sides with the Meguiars polish for a higher gloss.
The edges are the hardest part. I don't know if Taylor used more finish there or what, but the center of the back was FAR easier than the edges. I still need to work on the edges of the back a little more so I don't hear the drag of my fingers when I touch it. :)

I've used StewMac Color Tone #4Swirl Remover to polish a couple of Larrivee Om-03's.
I used their drill mounted foam polishing wheel after the initial hand rub.

Cindy, Dcary did a great job on his guitar using a foam polishing wheel mounted in his drill. You should try that method it seems to be a better method than doing it by hand. Beautiful job, Dcary!
