Newly acquired Taylor 310ce, 2011 model bought from local music shop. Proceeded to put new strings (Elixir nanoweb 0.013-053) on it, and noticed that the low E was dull sounding, dead, little sustain, wimpy sound. Whereas the A and other strings all sounded good. After reading others' comments here and elsewhere, I loosened the E string and re-seated the ball end at the pin. Even though it wasn't obvious that it was not well-seated, this fixed the problem and the E now sounds as it should, with brightness and bass and loudness as expected. Though I'd share this story because others may have the same issue - not the saddle at all, not the nut, etc. - merely the seating under the pin. Surprising but true. And I love the 310ce, wonderful guitar!

Thanks for the info....I've had the same problem and did not think about re-seating the ball-end.

Hmmm, interesting, Drex. I've never experienced this nor heard of it happening, but good tip and thanks for sharing.
FWIW, when I string up I always tug and maintain a "pull" on the string with my left had as I seat and hold the pin with my right, and then I maintain this tension as I wind up the tuner post. My method, anywho :)
