Title: Big Baby Taylor, is the different neck attachment design stable?
Post by: AmericanEagle on February 03, 2016, 06:55:41 PM
I found a Taylor Big Baby for sale used, for a pretty good price.
I was considering getting it as a second (dare I say, 'beater') guitar.
However, the neck attachment seems quite odd to me.
I mean, it has 2 colored wood screws in the fretboard,
and non-standard heel.
Does anyone have one, and how stable is the neck?
Thanks

I've owned two over the years and they're every bit as stable as any Taylor guitar. Good sound, too.

I've never heard anything bad about neck stability on the Big Baby.  IMO, it is a far better guitar than the Baby too.  I've even thought of unbolting the neck and putting the body and detached neck into a bomb-proof Pelican case for travel.  But Taylor is not wild about that idea.  Apparently the insert that the bolt and screws go into is soft brass, and not intended for frequent use.

I have a '99 Baby, which is the same system.  Rock stable since then and no signs of anything but a solid joint.  And my BabyT has traveled with us to lots of places in a variety of climates.  No worries :D

I owned a BBT for 5 years. Had the exact same concern when I bought it...the two screws...but it played and sounded wonderful. Never had a problem with it. In fact, my review is the #1 most helpful review on Amazon re: the BBT. Great little guitar. I upgraded to something with electronics and a cutaway, but the BBT is great for what it is.
