To get this place up and going, and mainly to get info out to Taylor owners, what would you say is the best stand for Taylor's nitro finish?
I like to keep mine in cases now, as I have two small children, but as the years go by, I want to show off my passion, which in my eyes is also art.
Thanks,
Boone

Your Taylors have a UV cured polyurethane finish which is extremely durable. Any stand works for the Taylor finish. Any issues you may have are most likely going to be from traumatic injury (bumps, falls, gouges, etc.). The stands that have a neck support and a retainer on the neck support help to reduce some of these issues.. If you want your guitars to remain in perfect condition, keep them in the cases and never take them out or play them. ;^D

Hey Boone,
I don't know Taylor's history, so did they use nitro on their old guits? By your sig lines, though, I see only current models, of which all are a UV-cured poly-something. Far more durable and rubber-resistant than nitro. FWIW, I've used String Swings on the wall and Hercules floor stands (with the grabber yoke) for many years with no ill effects. Oh, and huge recommendation to go for wall hanging ...I did this many years ago when my tikes were little grabbers. If you want to enjoy having the guitars out (and you do!!), then I'd go wall mount over stands in a heartbeat when kids are a part of the equation.

Thanks for the replies, and for the pass on my ignorance about the finish. :D
For years I had assumed that Taylor had the nitro finish. I've already learned something from this forum ;D

Hey guys, does anyone have an opinion on the Cooperstand? They seem really convenient.

UV finish was introduced in 95 (i'm not sure if the 20th anniversary GA models had it) -
there have been several different finishes used (nitro, polyester, etc), but these were
not as resistant to cold or weather checking as the finish that is currently being used
i'm partial to either the hercules GS415B (i like the collapsable headstock & no 'back bumper')
http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/floorstands.html (http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/floorstands.html)
or the ultimate genesis GS100 (they've added the GS1000, with self closing yoke also)
http://www.ultimatesupport.com/category/Guitar_Stands__Genesis_Series (http://www.ultimatesupport.com/category/Guitar_Stands__Genesis_Series)
either stand contacts the guitar on either side of the edge of the headstock (above the nut) &
on either edge of the lower bout on the back (or front if the guitar is placed with the back forward
i am reasonably certain that the foam covering that covers the contact points
is safe, but on nitro finishes (with there being so many different formulations),
cover those contact areas with a non-abrasive (cotton) adhesive backed fabric tape
should be adequate to prevent any adverse reactions (off-gassing/softening)

Since my kids are long grown and gone, and even my grandkids are teenagers, I keep my guitars out in my music room on Taylor stands. I just like the way they look. I even keep my mandolin on a Taylor stand. The one exception is my T-5...I keep that on a Hercules stand because it's more stable for the thinner body shape.

I was using a couple of OnStage floor stands until I noticed that the foam on the bottom of the stand reacted with the nitro finish on my Guild. I traded both of them in for a Hercules double stand and put leather wraps over the foam that comes into contact with the guitar. The guitars hang on the stand from just below the headstock.
The foam is not a concern with Taylors because they do not have a nitrocellulose finish. The guitars look pretty cool hanging on the Herc, but I always store them in their cases for protection and better environmental control.

I use the OnStage stand with the neck holder. It keeps my guitar safe at home or on the stage.

Because i have dogs running around the house i use a Hercules stand.

Hey Eliel,
I have two cooperstands (one for each Taylor) and I love them. They're small and fit right into my case. They also unfold easily and are near impossible to tip over. I like the simplistic look of it when I have my guitar one the stand.
I have the wood model, but they also make an "earth friendly" one made mostly out of recycled plastics.
The only complaint is that you can't leave the guitar plugged in while using the stand (because they sit so low to the ground) unless you use 90-degree plug.
-
If you have children you need a stand like the Onstage Stand it has neck holder that locks the neck to the stand. Makes it harder to knock the guitar over. The Copperstand will be bad with children around.

this would probably the most protective 'stand', imho ;)

although a little more space on either sides of the instruments would be nice &
the other hangers might be able to used for mandolins or ukuleles, i imagine :-\

I use Genesis GS-200 stands in the house, but have a cooperstand that I use when I'm out and about. Very happy with both stands.
