Hey guys,
I picked up this beauty (GS8-12) the other day. I use a pick, so I ordered a guard from Taylor. I was getting ready to install it when I remembered that I had a lefty Collings CJ guard laying around. I dug it out and voila, it fit perfectly! The guitar is awesome. Easy to play and sounds fantastic! I need to figure out what the best pickup for it might be. Here's a pic.

Gotta love what Taylor does to 12ers ...congrats! Not to mention that's a really nice top: nice grain and excellent bookmatch with quite a bit of silking!
That pg looks great ...but then again, maybe that's because it also looks so similar to the Taylor shape ;)
Enjoy!!

You're gonna just love that. They play like butter and Edward has a wonderful string "discovery" which makes them sound even better. Take it from here Edward and tell Rick about the bronze string fix.

Thanks guys. It does play like butter. In addition to the beautiful top, it has a really nice set of rosewood for the back and side. Edward, I'd love to hear the sting discovery. Though I bought this guitar as new, with warranty, it's 5 years old! It was in the original box from Taylor, so I'm sure the strings are 5 years old too.....

Looks super. You should really enjoy that Taylor 12. You did a nice job on the PG too.

That looks fantastic. I would love to see a GS8 12 string in person, now yours is really special with that Collings pick guard on it...Wonder how many people who see the guitar in the future will notice without you mentioning?

Love the abalone or shell accent around the sound hole. Great 12er, congrats!

Thanks all! I was so impressed with this guitar that I bought a 6 string electric model. I find the 12 string so nice, I couldn't help myself. Now I have an acoustic to play with the band! I have a Collings and a Bourgeois, but they don't have pickups. Sorry for the crappy picture. I'll post a better one when I get it.

Hi Rick,
Sorry, I hadn't noticed this until you posted again :)
The simply "discovery" I made was that elixir nanos in PB for the 12er offers better tonal balance with the bigger/rounder bass notes (courtesy of the PB), which balances against the jangle of the treble strings better than does their 80/20 set, IMHO.
Problem: Elixir does not sell a 12string set in PB (nor do they have plans to, which is what they told me). So I made my own set: elixir nano PB 6-string set in 10s (it's the same gauge as the 12er set), and then order the other octave/unison strings individually (remember to get that wound string in PB, while the others are simply in plain steel). FWIW, I ordered from Stringsandbeyond where individiual elixirs are available. And all told, it is only a bit more money and trouble than the regular 12string light set, but the PB tone is noticibly deeper and rounder. So overall, it is very much worth it to me, particularly since I personally don't change my 12's strings nearly as often as the other guits. Of course, YMMV, but I'm sold on the change. Hope that gives you something to think about :)

Thanks Edward! I will definitely try that. I bought a Trance Amulet pickup for it and I'll try the new strings after I put the pickup in. Thanks for the tip!
P.S. Has anyone tried the Amulet M system in a Taylor 12?

I ordered two sets of the "Edward" blend!
