It would be interesting to know what folks in this group of similar interests are reading.
-
I enjoy biographies and have been wanting to read Bob Taylor and Brad Paisley's books. I usually read some type of fiction or romance (not the Fabio kind - not that there's anything wrong with that) but the light mystery/fun romance types. Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Phyllis Whitney are two that come to mind.
I also enjoy books written by Rick Reilly and John Feinstein. I used to work at a national newspaper and they would put the books out in the hallway for us that had been sent in for review. Sometimes they were not final and it was interesting to read the copy I had and then go to the bookstore after it had been published and see the end was different or something like that.
I have an eReader and use that to download books from the library so I'm kind of limited to what's available with that. I gave my mom two books for Christmas, one was a behind the scenes of the making of Casablanca (her favorite movie) and the other was a bio of Clint Eastwood. (looking forward to reading both.... ;D )

I'm reading "The Hobbit" for the 2nd time...it's just wonderful.
Bob Taylor's book is great as well!
-
I am currently reading the "The Anarchists Tool Chest" by Charles Schwarz. I was given this book for Christmas and have already read most of it. I am a woodworker by vocation and it talks about tools. You would think it would be dull but it is not.
-
I'm reading Bob Taylors book also.
-
Just finished Terry Pratchet's 'Snuff' one of his Discworld novels, and found it very enjoyable.
Now trying to get into 'Unseen Academicals' from the same author/series.
I like my reading to be harmless, escapist stuff.
-
I am currently reading Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, which is my fun reading, and The Frontiersmen by Allan Eckert, which is more serious grown up reading. As long as I am at least attempting to read a serious book, I let myself read as much fun stuff as I want. ;D

Recently saw "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", and it was such a disturbing yet compelling film, I had to get the book trilogy. Now on the iPad Kindle app and reading whenever I get a chance...

+1. Great movie. Im going to dive into the books as well! :)

I have read all 3 books and have seen the Sweedish films. They were very good. I have no desire to see the US version.
-
I am sooo not a reader. I read the bible, and I read My Utmost by Oswald Chambers... shoot for daily with those but ends up not so much later in the year. :o
HOWEVER, I did buy Steve Jobs bio on iTunes (pre-Christmas) and I'm into the 2nd chapter and am really intrigued by this book. We'll see if I actually finish it (of the 10 or so books I've started in the last decade, I've only finished ONE, which was The Shack by William P Young). I admire Steve Jobs for his creations and his passion, even though I vastly differ with him on personal life philosophy. I thought it was SO COOL that the first book I bought on my iPad was the Steve Jobs bio. That's cool, right? 8)

My wife and I were contemplating going to see this this week. Sounds like you thought it was worthwhile. Good to know - Thanks!

I read mostly biographies, military history, and theology. Right now, I'd reading "D-Day" by Stephen Ambrose and "Diary of a Player" by Brad Paisley.
-
Just started Skin Tight, an older book by Carl Hiassen, who is a national treasure. His latest, Star Island, is set against the background of the music business, but that is just an excuse for his typical twisted hilarity.
-
I'm rereading This Side of Paradise, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He was one of my favorite authors back in college, and it is interesting to read this again.
-
I don't have much time to read for leisure/pleasure these days (6 month old son, job, college) but one of the last books I read that really sticks with me is "Tracker" by Tom Brown, Jr.

There's something about reading about the appreciation of nature, the simple things, and introspection that is refreshing in the midst of today's hustle/bustle and go-go-go.

I've picked up a bad habit of reading books simultaneously, so it's taking longer to get through them all. But here's what's currently bookmarked:
- Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
- Things a Computer Scientist Rarely Tallks About by Donald Knuth
- The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium by Robert Lacey and Danny Danzinger
- The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
-
Just recently finished "The Lights of Marfa" by Doyle Dykes.
Highly recommended. :)

Well having given up on Pratchett's 'Unseen Academical's', for the time being, I have in the last week revisited Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. I am surprised how much I enjoyed reading it again, it must be 10 years since I last read it, and though it's considered a childrens book, I found it an engrosssing and moving read, (obviously in my dotage I'm reverting to children's literature).
Oh well, with a new film on the way, I think its time to visit the Hobbit again.
-
Just finished "Guitar Zero:The New Musician and the Science of Music" by Gary Marcus. The author took up guitar at what he considered the ripe old age of 40 (I just started at 55). I found his discussion on what impact learning an instrument has on the brain very interesting. Hope my brain is up to the challenge.
-
Currently reading "Captain Flandry", an anthology by Poul Anderson. I've recently read the latest books by SM Stirling, John Sanford and Sue Grafton.
-
Oh, I've also read all the Vince Flynn books, riveting!
:)

Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein.
I can not go into any details as we are not to talk politics.
-
I'm reading Act of Valor which is a novelization of a based on an upcoming movie about the Navy SEALs.
-
My first issue of Wood and Steel arrived yesterday. You know where my nose is.....

hi TP516,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! ! !
hope you're enjoying today with family & friends :)
er, speaking of 'shameless personal promotion' :-[
one of my friends picked up a copy of Bob's book from NAMM last year for me - it's a great read, imho

he also happened to run across some guy wielding a Sharpie, so a little ink got 'spilled' on the inside ;)

the '30 years of a new American classic' coffee table book is nice too -
a lot of great pics & history in that one :D
-
I am currently reading the Ender Game series by Orson Scott Card. I am on book 3 Xenocide.
-
Just finished The Bourne Deception by Eric Lustbader today and while reading it I found American Sniper by CPO Chris Kyle and had to buy and read it!! It was amazing and the Bourne Deception was good too.
-

I LOVE Carl Hiaasen!!! Didn't know he had a new one out, I'll have to get it... "Skin Tight" is one of my favorites!
My reading goes all over the place; currently, I'm reading a book called "Unintended Consequences", by John Ross... and I'm in the middle of re-reading Dr. Alistir MacKenzie's "The Spirit of St. Andrews" (MacKenzie is one of the pre-eminent golf course architects from the early 1900's...)... also re-reading Kenny Werner's book, "Effortless Mastery", one I re-visit every now and again...
play on...........................................>

Oh yeah, I have read all of them. I am a huge fan of the Bourne series!!

Just finished Bob Taylor's book last night. A very good read - the tone was conversational and one could imagine sitting with him in the backyard while he told his stories.
Sometimes the stars align and with loads of hard work that has paid off for both Taylor and us - the customers.
Oh yeah, now I know why the picture of him in the W&S is in front of a vehicle on a lift (always wondered why that was in a guitar magazine) - he mentioned his garage workshop in the book and how he likes to work on cars.
