Hi Everyone!
Welcome to the "Unofficial Taylor Guitar Forum!"
First of all, I'm extremely thankful for the information on the "other" guitar forum. Since learning that the Taylor subsection was going to be merged with the general section, I thought it might be helpful to make a new forum based for everyone that would still love to talk about anything related to only Taylor guitars!
I know that as of right now this forum board is pretty simple. I'm new to webpage/forum design, but hope that we can make it better in short time. Please be patient!
Sincerely, "jjrpilot"
The Unofficial Taylor Guitar Forum is an independent internet forum which is not in any manner related to or affiliated with "Quality Taylor Guitars" based in El Cajon, California.
Good News!!!!! Some people suggested that I talk to the OFFICIAL "Quality Taylor Guitars" company about using their company name in our website address. I was able to talk to a Wonderful Taylor representative who told me that as of now it's perfectly acceptable for us to have this forum/website. She visited this website and saw that it was user generated etc. She was aware that the "Taylor Guitar" forum on the other site was going to be merged/deleted at the end of the year. I expressed that many of us just wanted another "home" on the web where we could just talk about Taylor Guitars and their wonderful products. :) With this forum board, we won't have to wade through other brands etc. I also expressed that we were not here, nor did I register this website to make any profit off of their company. In other words, I think we're good to go!
I do think that making this "Taylor" specific lends uniqueness to this forum. What will make this forum even better is the introduction of Taylor specific sub-forums, which we will add soon. Once again if you visit the "theunofficialmartinguitarforum" it is alive and well! They have thousands of members, and tons and tons of participation...and all they talk about is Martin Guitar specific.
I know that I sound like a broken record at this point, but once again, I can't explain or convey just how thankful I am for each and every one of you who joined, and who will join.
Here's the Facebook link!

I just want to publicly thank "Steely Glen" for creating the Facebook page! You should too. ;)

Thanks for creating a new, dedicated Taylor forum! Looks great! :)

Thanks for creating this Forum. I'm a Taylor acoustic guy (712CE), but a PRS owner for my main electric rig. I'm also a Steve Krenz Legacy L&MG kinda guy. I don't have any issues with my Taylor, and having owned it for several years I can say that it's opened up very nicely with a mellow tone over time. Lookin' forward to reading all your postings. Lotsa luck.
-
Thanks for the support everyone! This is going to take some work, but I believe in the end it will be well worth it. I have NO PROBLEM with people talking/linking to other forum boards. It's not about a competition which some forum boards believe it is...I want this to be a source of info for everyone.
You all, and your opinions/feedback are MORE than welcomed here.
-
214CE owner here. Thanks fo r starting this board. I too am a Steve Krenz student.

Did they give you a reason for deleting your thread?
Yes...which I completely understand. They stated that all links to forum boards that "compete" etc will be deleted.
I understand that, but the part I struggled with was the fact that they had openly stated that the Taylor section would be merged/deleted. So they'll delete the Taylor forum, but not give me the ability to tell others about a new alternative.
I'm still going to use AGF, but I'll definitely be using this...and hope that others will do the same.
I'd like to see this be the new Taylor information source etc.
MUCH thanks for your support! Now let's start posting about Taylors!!!! ;D
-
I'm in. I am still very happy to be a member of the AGF, but I am very interested to see what we can make of the UTGF as well. Well done Josh.
-
I'm in. As someone who operates another forum(motorcycle related), it will be tough to start, but keep doing good things, and people will come. Thanks for giving us Taylor folks a place for refuge ;D
-
Huge kudos to you, Josh, for undertaking this task! Granted it will be a work-in-progress, but you "voted" with your feet. You rock, friend!
Like you and many others, I am grateful to the AGF and its members who have on the whole been so kind, generous, and helpful in things guitar and Taylor. More than just "sharing knowledge," the folks there made the Taylor forum not just a place to visit, but a genuinely cool place to hang. But as succinctly stated by another, the gratitide I feel for the forum and its members is not reciprocated by its owner, as evidenced by his own reply. So I will visit there while there is still a Taylor-specific discussion area. But I cannot support a place where I am tolerated as mere excess baggage only waiting for my time to be jettisoned.
To all here now, thanks for having me! Let us rock on, gents! :)

OK, I'm in. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for launching the new forum ... now, how can we get that little guitar playing smiley man icon? 8)

This is just one more reason why we love and will continue to support "Quality Taylor Guitars!" :D
That is good news!!
Just let me add that it is really nice to see some familiar names showing up on this Forum. It's beginning to feel like home (now that the old one is being torn down)

I'm here and I like the guitar-playing smiley man too!!
Oh yeah, where can I get the UTGF T-Shirt?

JJRPILOT,
Thanks for creating this FORUM!
I'll see you around!

Cue up the old Bluegrass song, (what have they done to the) "Old Home Place" (why did they tear it down) ... :)

To Josh and all,
Is it premature to start wondering about a "classfieds" section for guitars and gear here, as well? I know it's in the seedling stage and there's much more traffic out there in forum-land, but heck, why not? What say you all?

Edward...great idea! It's going to start at some point! I'll see what I can do!

Since AGF squashes any public mention of this new forum, I've been notifying members individually. If each of us notifies 10 members, this new community will be vibrant in no time.
-
Are we not allowed to say anything in the subgroup thread that's been active the last few days over there? What will they do, delete the post?

Yes, they deleted Josh's post about starting this new forum.

Hey, didn't I already join the Taylor guitar forum ten years ago? ;)
-
I was ToneLounge on the old TGF/AGF because I joined before I worked at Taylor.
Now I'm free to be me!
-
I be here...glad this has been set up!
Hmm...now I need an avatar...

Good job Josh! Glad to be here! Now what do we do with it 8)

As someone who bought his first Taylor just over a week ago, it felt a little like the rug being pulled out from under. I am pretty excited to be part of something from the start here. Look forward to contributing.
-
Thanks for doing this Josh. Great!
-
Wow. Cool to see this forum gaining popularity. When I left for work this AM, crickets were chirping (1 thread with 1 reply) and now, there's traffic everywhere!
-
Hi Everyone,
Man I'm sooo pumped up about this forum! I'm sooo thankful for each and every one of you that has come over. I know that there's a ton of work to be done to this site to make it a little more appealing to the eye etc. Hang in there...and please be patient with me as I figure all of this stuff out.
I can't explain how awesome it is to be part of such a great community already! Keep in mind this website is literally almost 24 hours old! That's right...not even a day old...just boggles my mind.
So again, I write to all new members..."WELCOME!!!!!!"

Hey, didn't I already join the Taylor guitar forum ten years ago? ;)
Hello Ted. Good seeing everybody starting to show up.

:D :D :D
Nice to see this started up so quick after 'the news' over there. ::)
I am also glad to hear that this concept was run by the officials at Taylor, and sounds like they're okay with it.
Niiiiiice!
Hopefully this place gets plenty of traffic, thanks!

Josh - I just wanted to thank you for taking this project on! Although I didn't post frequently on the other forum, I enjoyed reading the posts nearly everyday. I was saddened to hear about the upcoming changes at the other forum but am relieved and pleased that you have created a new place for those who have a Taylor-specific interest like me! Well done. my friend, and Thank you!

Yes, they deleted Josh's post about starting this new forum.
Whoa.. That kinda bothers me.. I love the old forums.. but I don't like the idea that info about this place got deleted one bit..

I can understand them removing the posts, most forums have rules about advertising the competition.
My issue with the happenings at AGF is that there seemed to be a clear outcry about the changes, but that the management over there doesn't seem very responsive to the comments.
I mean, look at Netflix. They tried to fix what wasn't broken and they ticked off a lot of the customers/membership.
To their credit, they listened to the backlash and dumped the Kwikster plans (but still kept the price increases, oh well).
There seems to more to the story than we've been told, and JR over there doesn't owe us an answer, but shouldn't be surprised at the exodus if he doesn't clue us in better.

Well done JR!
I'm with you,

PS Are you a planning a sub forum for carbon fiber guitars? ;)

A great BIG welcome to you fellow Taylor fan!

Hey Josh,
I know we've been chiming in with suggestions for sub-forums. So here's another one:
FAQs (maybe sticky threads) on the recurring guitar topics (like the old favorites):
- What strings/gauge
- Bone saddle
- Taylor's Body Shapes and Nomenclature
...to name a few.
I know we kind of poke fun at seeing the rehash/retreads of the "those old posts" but let's face it, we should cater to those new to guitar, new to Taylor, or maybe just looking for a fresh perspective on an old topic. I have become familiar with Taylor now like an old pair of favorite jeans, but I for one benefitted immensely from others' "obvious" info that was all new to me.
Anyway, just food for thought...

I agree to be aware of the newcommers to the Tayor family.
When I was looking to get information on the Guild GAD series I went to what I thought was the obvious source and posted my questions. But the response I got was, to me, kind of demeaning and so I dropped my membership to that organization. This is not meant to be a slam against that forum, but I just wanted to support Edward's comments.

Good call everyone!
I think tonight...I might start adding sub-forums.
I'll start a secondary thread about possible sub-forums YOU ALL would like to see!
I want this to be the best that it can...and it can't be the best without YOUR input. I appreciate you all!
-
I agree to be aware of the newcommers to the Tayor family.
+1 ... we were all "newcomers" at one time ... I try and remember that fact when someone asks a question that has been asked multiple times ... I'll tell you this, the Taylor sub-forum has been one of the most courteous, patient and understanding forums I've ever been a part of ... that is why it is about the only place I visit almost daily ... if I don't learn something or get interested in a particular thread each time, at least I always enjoy the fellowship
-
Thanks for the warm welcome Josh!
I believe you should make this a place for all that love guitars, and not just Taylor. In fact, I'm typing this from my office that has a wall full of my favorite guitars: Tom Anderson, Fender Custom Shop, Gretsch, PRS, and my most recent purchase... a Gibson ES-330 from 1963. Accordingly, I'm a member of The Gear Page, Huge Racks, Inc., Rig Talk, and other gear communities around the web.
All of us at Taylor have a love and appreciation for a wide variety of guitars from all makers, too. That's what keeps life interesting, right? And our feelings are not hurt if someone believes a Martin D-18 is a great dred - 'cause it's hard to disagree!
In a couple of months we'll have a great place to talk all things Taylor, but in the mean time I'm happy to be here.
-
Josh,
I want to publically thank you for the invitation to be a part of this Forum.
A few years abck I found the other Forum (which I really liked and still do) when researching Taylor Guitars. It was because of the Taylor Section that I became a T5 owner and just last year, the owner of an 814ce Tobacco Burst. Without the great amount of knoweldge abounding in posts elsewhere, I might not have become a Taylor owner.
I look forward to being a part of this new Forum. I might not have a lot of expertise to offer, but I can offer enthusiam and I can read a lot :)
Hey, this was my first post here...,.
-
Hey Josh. Appreciate the creation of this forum. As a longtime TGF'r it was sad to see it go, but Im very impressed with the amount of traffic & members here already. Awesome, and thanks again.
-
Just thought I'd mention that I've been monitoring the activity of the other new site that started up this morning and ... well, there is none. No activity, that is. Not one post all day long.
-

I noticed that, too, and feel kinda bad for the guy, but Josh had his up first and is allowing us to offer ideas on subforum names. 8)

I'm not likely to have much additional online time for other forums, but I'm glad to see this place launched. Best wishes to all!

I seriously doubt there is enough interest in talking about Taylor guitars to support two more forums. For example on a busy day the AGF has about 50 visitors on the Taylor forum and 150 on the general section, but only about two thirds that on normal days. Currently they have 450 visitors, 80 of which are members and this is on one of the largest guitar forums on the net at their busiest time. Interestingly enough, right now there are approximately 1000 visitors on my website, 1700 on the Taylor Facebook page, and a whopping 4700 on the Martin Facebook page.

I would agree with all of the above. At this point, I believe that we will keep this great forum focusing only on all things Taylor. As stated before, I don't want to compete with JR and his AGF forum. His forum is wonderful! I only created this because the Taylor sub-forum over there was going to be deleted/merged.
The other new forum that was started recently...has a Taylor sub-forum, but also has many other brand name guitar sub-forums as well. I think focusing only on Taylor Guitars lends uniqueness to this forum/website.
Having an "official" and "unofficial" Taylor forum, will be great though! I hope that people would be able to speak their minds freely on either forum. Since we're not the official Taylor company, I think that people will understand that we're here to support "Quality Taylor Guitars" and that we're not forced to say so.
This forum was birthed out of an absolute love for Bob Taylor and his wonderful company. We are here to support Bob's work, and his company. Having both the "official" and "unofficial" forums will also help to expand our knowledge, as many people with different hobbies...many times...are members of multiple forums that cover the exact same product.
I really think this is the beginning of something great. You all make this forum special. Thanks for being apart of it!
-
It wouldn't be bad to have a general section and a "other topics" section for those that want talk about other guitars or other things. Its nice to have a place to move messages too that just don't belong in the sub topic. After 15 years running forums, we are still tweaking things to keep folks happy on my site.

st,
good to see you here :)
glad you found the place ok
just found out you need fifty to be promoted from 'noob' -
it'll come in due time ... lots to talk about here :D
-
Thanks for doing this, Josh.
Since we do not know what the official Taylor forum will be like, it will be good to have a (this) place for open, honest discussion and critiques of products.
-
A big hearty welcome to both "sthompson" and "cjd-player"!!!
Please forgive me if I've missed welcoming any other new members! I've been out for a bit. ;)
For all those wondering, when we do create sub-forums...there WILL be a "Welcome! Please Introduce Yourself" type of sub-forum.
This is really turning out to be an amazing community!
-
Thanks to Josh and who(whom)ever is stepping forward to put this forum togther.....alternatives are always good.
-
Figure I'll post this here as it seems to be a good general thread.
Suggestion: see if you can change "My Community" to the proper name of the forum. There's got to be a setting for it somewhere, and I suspect changing it to "Unofficial Taylor Guitar Forum" will help a lot with people finding this place in search engines. Cheers, and congrats again on the new forum!

Hi Captain Jack! Good call on the "my community"...truth be told, I tried changing it a long time ago...but figure out where...so I spent some time "googling" it...and finally found where to change it. ;)

Glad to be aboard and great work setting this up! :)
