Title: Taylor 310 year 2000
Post by: Glider on May 20, 2012, 12:11:25 PM
Anyone playing an older 310? I just picked up a used one and am feeling really happy about it. Just curious as to how people like it and how it differs from the current 310ce. Also what type if wood is the sides and.back.. I wad told it was mohogany but I know the newer ones at sapelli(sp?)

Michaepedia should be able to answer your question! Some of the 3xx series are made with sapele, but the older models may have used a different variety in the mahogany family...something like khaya if I'm not mistaken.

hi Glider,
good to see you here :)
WELCOME !
congrats on the 310  :D
a friend stopped by yesterday with a 98 310 & it sounded really nice

the 12 310ce has a 1 3/4" nut Standard II forward shifted bracing with relief rout
chrome Taylor tuners, scarfjoint headstock, small (4mm) pearloid fret markers,
9V ES with one body sensor & discrete preamp & a black tecate made hardshell case

your 310 has a 1 11/16" nut (standard, in 01 it was changed to 1 3/4")
'classic' pre-Standard II scalloped x-bracing, chrome Grover tuners
fingerjoint headstock & large (6.33mm) mother of pearl fret makers -
standard case was a SKB sourced thermoplastic hardshell & standard
electronics on the 00 310ce was the Fishman Prefix with Matrix UST

also, it's most likely that your 310 does not have an inner back centerstrip -
the pre-01 300 (& 400 series) models i've seen & owned did not have them

the back & sides on the 300 series was sapele from 98-03 & 07 to current -
from 04-06, the standard 300 was african 'mahogany' (khaya), the fretboard was
unbound (the frets end were visible) & in late 06, Standard II bracing was phased in

i like the older models, especially the 'square shoulder' 96-earlier dreadnoughts,
but there is a 12 316ce that i had a chance to play recently & it was amazing  :o

looking forward to hearing more from you -
if you have a pic or two of your guitar you'd like to share, we'd love to see it

please make yourself comfortable :D

note to self - must learn to type faster ;)

I have liked every Taylor I have played between 95-2002 ish.  You should have a nice one there.  Congrats, and as always, feel free to post lots of pics!
