Title: new BTO, with pics!
Post by: terrypl on May 10, 2012, 10:06:44 PM
Got my new BTO from Jim at Guitar Rodeo, see pics below. Specs are:

* GA, with AA rosewood and Sitka top
* koa binding and bound soundhole
* short-scale neck
* neck stained dark to match the rosewood body
* cut diamond fret markers

I love the tone -- it's much fuller, richer and deeper than I expected from a GA-size body. I also have a gorgeous BTO GS in rosewood/spruce. I was looking to have a smaller body GA with the short-scale neck and light gauge strings, for a more intimate "living room" guitar. I used to have a 514-C (which I traded to fund the GS), and I kind of missed that body size. It's so comfortable to hold and play while sitting down.

Anyway, not sure that the pics do justice to it, but the koa binding is a really awesome touch!

Hi Terrypl...that BTO looks great!  Congrats!  I really like the stained neck...I don't think I've seen that on a BTO before.  8)

Another great looking BTO. Congratulations. 3-5 more weeks before mine arrives and it seems like time is standing still right now, especially with all the other people getting BTOs. I love to see what everyone else's look like, though, and yours is gorgeous. Enjoy.

Very nice, love the koa binding on the neck!  I've never seen that before, sure beats white plastic!

Very nice indeed!  Good luck with it and many years of enjoyment.
That Koa looks really nice.  My BTO has the same Koa as yours.

I did the dark neck on mine also.  It really makes the guitar look classy.  You have a great looking one there!

I didn't even see that option on the BTO work sheet. I don't know if I would have done it, but it would have been nice to know that it was an option.

I didn't even see that option on the BTO work sheet.

It's not on the list of options, but I saw it mentioned by others, so I asked about it. I guess if you ask, they'll do it, but for some reason, they don't list it.

I love it too! Now that I've had a few days to play it, I am just loving the feel and the tone. I'm sure I'll go back and appreciate the GS for its deeper, bigger tone, but for now I am really enjoying the size of the GA body, the feel of the light gauge strings and the short scale neck. All add up to a really comfortable playing experience. I thought I'd sacrifice a lot more volume and bass with the GA body, but not really. I'm hearing a nice clear bottom end and more volume than I was expecting. All in all, a great result. Jim at Guitar Rodeo played it and predicted that it would give the GS a run for the money, and he was right. I do love the GS too, but for now, the GA is in the spotlight.
