Title: Taylor 114ce and 114?
Post by: Alice13 on May 10, 2012, 02:32:58 AM
Hi, :)

I was thinking about getting a Taylor 114ce or 114... I have a baby Taylor but I want something bigger. :)

Do you guys think it's a good guitar?

Thanks :)

Hi Alice13, Either choice would be good. They feature solid tops.  :)

@Alice,

Pick one up and play it and see what you think.  If it makes you want to keep playing it and you like the sound then yes it would probably be a good choice for you.

I just watched a used Taylor 110 Dread (cousin to the 114 GA) last +/- one day on the sales floor at a local Guitar Center.   In other words, that 110 sold in one day or less.

There is a lot of value in the 1XX and 2XX Taylor series, but you have to try them for yourself and listen with your ears.  These are guitars you can perform with without reservation.

I think the 114ce is a great guitar, but then again I own one. ;)
I've decided you really can't go wrong with any Taylor-they all sound wonderful, but you really need to play all the models you're interested in to find the one that feels right in your hands and speaks to you. Just remember to have fun and enjoy the process in choosing your new Taylor, but be sure and let us know which model you get!

I had a 110 and thought it was a very good guitar.  Do you need a cut away and electronics? I dunno, do you.  Are you up past the 14th fret a lot and do you need to amp your guitar?  If your not then save yourself some money, get the 114.

Either the 114 or 114ce is a good choice in its price range. The 114ce would be easier to sell than the 114 because there is more of a demand for guitars with factory installed pickups and cutaways but I think you should get whichever appeals to you the most.

I loved the 114ces that I tried. Almost got one but found a better deal on a used 214ce that I liked just as much! Go for it, I say.

I played a bunch of different Taylors, and the 114ce is the one that "spoke to me."  So, kinda biased, but yes, I think it's a fine guitar.  The 100 and 200 series have the ES-T pickup system as opposed to the ES in the 300 and higher series.  It has laminated sides and back.  Plays beautifully, sounds great.  What's not to like?

I'd second the recommendation that you try different models and see what appeals to you.

Enjoy the search, then enjoy the guitar.

Best wishes,
Captain Jim

Thanks for the help! :) I think I'll go and have a look at the guitars first and see if I like it :)

Same here!  In my opinion, my 114e sounds better than my 310.
