NGD.... Well my Taylor dealer gave me a call and they got the mini's in. So skipped on down and tried a GS Mini in maple, Blackwood And Rosewood. Originally I thought there would be no difference, but to my surprise all three had a little different tone.
The maple was brighter sounding with excellent volume.
The rosewood was a nice broad range and excellent volume.
The blackwood was in the middle and excellent volume
So I choose the rosewood:
Nice Sitka top.

excellent rosewood

It is turning out to be a blast to play. Did I say they have excellent volume, I won't compare it to my 814 but it will be perfect for the RV park this Summer

Nice...... :) .Can't wait to try a rosewood.

I bought my mahogany top right before they announced the spring limiteds, would have liked to try the rosewood option before choosing, but I'm still really digging the mahogany so no dissonance :) Hope you enjoy it!

Nice find, very nice looking woods! The new versions look very tempting. I hope I get to try all three, plus an all hog, someday.
Do you know what the back/sides are laminated with? Meaning, if you get a rosewood version is it all rosewood, just a laminated version? Is that how the laminates work? Maple on maple, blackwood on blackwood, etc?

congrats on the GSMini LTD-R, mike :)

up until 2011, the solid top models (baby B, K, M (BT-2), MA (BT-3), R)
(big baby & 07-later 100/200s) were all sapele inner veneer with a poplar filler layer
regardless of the outer veneer & the DDX had a maple inner veneer & maple neck
the Mini LTDs are listed as having the same inner veneer as the outer
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/gs-mini-rosewood (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/gs-mini-rosewood)
but i'm wondering if the description may have been a carry over from the 200s
(rosewood & maple laminates), as the 214ceSB shows to have both rosewood
inner & outer veneer, the 214ceSB i've seen had a sapele inner veneer ???

I called Taylor(they have really great customer service peeps)and they told me that my GS Mini Rosewood Ltd. is made up of Sepele, then a core material and in my case it is Poplar and then Rosewood on the outside.
