another thread prompted me to put this poll & thread up -
in addition to what is currently available through the BTO program,
i am wondering if there would be interest in models such as these
standard 3/4 series appointments, satin back & sides, standard II bracing, sapele neck
updated rosette (GS style 3 ring, no ab) perhaps with black binding & white purfling
(as it was in the mid/late 90's), for a nominal increase in list price (maybe ... 20% ???)
really just wishful thinking here, but who knows ...
to quote Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber
'so. you're tellin' me there's a chance?'
YES ;D
have fun :D

oooohhh Dooonuts. Oh wait a minute, what?
-
What, exactly, is it you're asking?
-
The one thing I always feel with a 4 series is how much nicer it would be if the ovangkol was a bit more glossed.
Oddly, I don't feel that when I pick up a 3 series... I guess sapele has more of a sheen to it naturally.
-
I would want an option for gloss back and option to change white binding
tonally, ovangkol and Sitka are awesome (I know, I have one) :)
-
I would have paid for those options, and also a single ring abalone rosette
-
I'd really like to see a 12-fret GC3 or GC4. And by 'see' I mean 'own.' :)

I think the OP is talking about what "4 series" (grand auditorium shaped guitars) we would like to see, not what 400 series we would like to see, no? Maybe this thread inspired by the new GS MINI options (maple, rosewood, blackwood laminate b/s not to mention the hog tops...)? You just gotta love where Taylor's gone with those!

actually i expanded it into a series, rather than just one specific body size -
the thread that this one 'spun-off' of was about the grand auditorium specifically
but since other builders offer spruce/rosewood models (gloss top & all-satin finish)
in a few body sizes, i thought 'why not open it up to all of 'em' & see what happens ;)
hog top mini ???

yep, yep :D

im eyeing a 410 on ebay currently. probably the highest purchased series.
-
I still don't understand what's being asked.
For example, is there interest in a 4 Series Dread? Well, yeah, because it already exists...
-
hey Steve,
i thought that you might have been referring to mgap's post earlier -
in the 90's there were several 400 series (not 'LTD's per se) made with
different back & sides (rosewood, maple, koa, pao ferro & all mahogany)
there are a couple of builders offering all-satin & gloss top rosewood models

for a little more than the XX4 series & i was wondering if might be any
interest if Taylor were to make additional models available (XX4-R, etc)
as a standard model, rather than to offer them strictly as LTD models
