Title: Taylor 12 string
Post by: mgap on April 11, 2012, 08:53:07 AM
I see that Taylor is now only offering one size of 12 string, the x56(GS)body, last year they had 3. The GA, and Jumbo are not on the Taylor web site.  Does anybody know if this is to be the permanent offering?
After looking at the 356ce and 856ce on the web site I noticed that they are using 6 string pictures as the additional photos.

I don't know about the GA, but Taylor has stated that they are temporarily dropping all jumbos from the lineup so that they can revoice them.

I liked the 356 as well but when I played the 656 and the GSK-12 I decided that while the 356 is nice I am going to take a pass on it and go with one of the koa guitars, maybe the K66?

As Dennis so aptly pointed out, Taylor has suspended the Jumbo for revoicing ...as one who loved their jumbos and owned a lovely 655, I can't wait to hear what they come up with, 12 and 6 string!  So if you're hankering for a Taylor 12-er, you may want to hold out till the jumbo arrives. :)

That said, the GS is IMHO the perfect body for Taylor's 12-ers.  It delivers the lower end volume that one needs to balance out all those ocatve strings, but also retains strong midrange presence that one needs to keep tones "defined" and not lost in a sea of jangling strings.  I love what my current GS-bodied 12 brings to the table; it's all the things I want a 12 string to sound like.  Yet ...I have always been and continue to be a sucker for a nice jumbo.  There is something so alluring about the tone and the look of a jumbo (yeah, I said it, how it looks :) ) that I foresee having to exercise superhuman doses of self-restraint in not getting one when the new breed arrives.  Jumbos rock with a vengeance!  I never want to part with my GS, but man there's nothing like a good jumbo, especially in a 12.

Amen Edward.
Just purchased a GS-K-12 a few weeks ago, and am blown away by the volume, sustain, balance, and rishness of tone. Needless to say, the back and sides are beautiful, but I've had a difficult time trying to play the guitar backside-up ;)
