Anyone know about availability of builder's reserve series III?
-
Hi Robkbor! Great to have you here! :D I'm not sure about the availability...but I'm sure someone will chime in with info...
-
hi rob,
good to see you here :)
WELCOME !
there are 30 sets of the BR IIIs that were made -
euro spruce/flamed mahogany GS (pasadena torch inlay) & amp
i'm uncertain how many sets were allotted to the states & the #
to be exported & the dealer info for those that have ordered
them has been not been added to Taylor's website as of yet
your best bet would be to call Taylor customer service in the morning to find out
who the closest dealer would be in your area that is expecting to receive a set
looking forward to hearing more from you &
please make youself comfortable :D
-
Thanks. I found one at the Music Emporium in Lexington, MA. Looking forward to delivery!
-
Nice, congrats on your new Taylor set - don't forget the pics!! ;D

Each District Sales Manager (covering the United States and Canada) was given one set of each to sell, and there are nine District Sales Managers. I don't know if any were alloted to national accounts (GC, etc), or how many may have been slated to go overseas, if any...
-
That's gonna be a nice add to someone's collection.

Looks like Tobias has a set. Great store, great prices and amazing people. They are in suburban Chicagoland but do a good bit of web/phone business as I understand.

Just don't buy their set before I get a chance to drool over it first ;)

As promised earlier, I had a chance to stop in and play the Builder's Reserve III. It was a spectacular pairing. The amp only has a volume control but I think it helps keep the integrity of the expression system on the guitar. The guy playing it in the video described it as transparent. The guitar had rich bass tones. You can draw your own conclusions by giving the video a listen. Oh yeah, the amp comes with a sweet soft leather cover. I thought I captured it in the video but upon further review, I think I missed it. Sorry.
According to my dealer, there were 10 sets for the US and 20 sets exported... and I am grateful I was able to test drive one of them.
Sorry about the quality of my pictures.
Here are some pics, enjoy:

Frankly I'm surprised that any dealer still has one of the #3 builder sets in stock. Seems to me any store with the kind of customers who can afford a $10,000 set like this would just need to make a few calls and they would be sold without even having to discount them.
-
Hey Big DB thanks for the pics...pretty sweet set!
Greenheart...I was thinking the same thing.
-
I'm taking delivery first week in may--guess I got lucky. I'll let you know what it sounds like when I get it home. Thanks for the pics and description. Had no idea there were only 10 in the US.

uh, actually that's the BR V
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/builders-reserve/series-v (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/builders-reserve/series-v)
the BR III is the flamed mahogany model
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/builders-reserve/series-iii (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/builders-reserve/series-iii)
i thought that the koa guitar & uke was released first, as it seemed
to get 'first' billing in W&S Vol 70 (pg 15-17), but it's designated BR IV
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/builders-reserve/series-iv (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/builders-reserve/series-iv)
congrats on the incoming BR III, rob -
next week should be pretty special :D

Actually Michael all but the third pic from the top are of a BR-III.
Rob, congrats on the BR-III.
-
Yeah, thanks. Michael, your comment and the pic only made me a little nervous!
-
Actually all of the photos I previously posted were of the BR III. It is a flatsawn flamed mahogany. The finish isn't the typical dark mahogany finish. I thought it looked like golden honey. Maybe my pictures didn't do it justice.
The BR V won't be shipped until some time in June and as michaelw's link shows it to be a light colored maple with an art deco inspired amp.
The BR IV is the guitar/uke combo, my favorite.
By the way, the story on why that dealer had it is because it was the second set he received. The first set he received was pre-sold then the one pictured above showed up. He said it was gone in less than a week.
Hey Robokor - Has your GAS been relieved yet?
Doe anyone here know what the BR I and BR II were? I will post my answer next week unless someone guesses it first.
-
BR1 was a Bastogne Walnut Solidbody (I think around 70 were made), and the BR II was the Liberty Tree T5 (of which 50 were made)...
-
You are correct!!! Good job!

I had the opportunity to test drive a BR2 last night! What a beautiful piece of functional art! I took a couple of pictures to share...

Too spendy for me (I also don't care for the blonde color combo, but that's JMHO).
