Title: First Taylor coming Thursday!
Post by: Maynard9089 on March 19, 2012, 07:37:01 PM
Well I have been patiently waiting for a particular dealer to get a 414ce in for me and last Wednesday I received the tracking info from UPS. Yeah! So the excitement begins! Friday after work I checked its progress and found that the sender requested an intercept and return of the guitar. After the initial shock I called him. He was very appologetic and due to a mishap the day it was shipped he recalled all units sent out that day to correct the mistake. So this morning the guitar I had been waiting nearly a month for was less than 20 minutes away but headed the wrong way. Today I got a new tracking number for a 2nd 414ce he received and its got an anticipated Thursday delivery. Fingers crossed! Pics when it arrives.

When there was only one for me to choose from all was well. Now that I am not getting that one but another instead I fear I will always wonder if the other was "better". The dealer assured me they were both"sweet". Being a novice player I am sure either are better than the Fender I currently play. If for some odd reason I am not happy with it I will trade it on another model or give it to my wife.

Wow, recalling a UPS package means paying for shipping three times, what was the mishap?

It sounded like he or an employee had mistakenly sent the wrong guitars to a couple of individuals. I looked it up on UPS's site and if he did the intercepts onlineor by phone there is a charge and neither way is guaranteed. I paid the original shipping so he would have had to eat that to reship it. So assuming he did it online my guitar cost him an additional amount to ship. I am not sure how many he recalled total but there had to be at least 2 others because he told me that after they had a chance to figure out where the mistakes were they realized mine was fine but UPS wouldn't allow him to remove the intercept request. It may have been cheaper to let them all get delivered and straighten it out afterwards but that would be assuming everyone was honest and understanding.

Yeah - "honest and understanding" because the guy who thought he ordered a 914ce, only to open the box and behold a lowly (but still nice) 214ce would immediately send it back and expect a quick fix - but what is the obligation to do so for the guy on the other end of that deal, since it was technically the dealer's error?  I think the dealer had no choice but to handle it the way it did.

I can understand how that can happen.  Earlier this year, I was in my local shop because I wanted to try the 416ce fall ltd, and I had seen on their website that they still had two in inventory.  Looking around the shop I couldn't find one, so I asked the dealer and he went into the storeroom to pull it out.  Came back and said there weren't any.  Really? There are still two on your website?  Hmmm?

He checked his inventory computer, and yup - still had two.  Went back again to find one and brought it out.  With a little label that had all the details for the 416ce 2011 fall limited.  Right under a big label that said "GS7".  Go figure.

I wont go into details about who the dealer is because it wouldn't be fair because he has been great to work with. He is a small business that has a large turnover. It was an honest mistake that he did his best to protect the customer and himself. It will work out in the end and as far as I know he has been the only one impacted financialy. Its unfortunate it cost him what it did but could have been much worse. All it cost me was an extra 3 days and a slight disappointment. Trying to put a positive light on it so twice in one week I was able to be excited about an impending guitar delivery. Thats enough excitement for me so I hope it won't be three.

As it has not yet been said here yet.  The guitar isn't real until we see photos of it!!

Congrats on the thus far imaginary guitar! :)

Sorry. It was waiting for me yesterday when I got home from work. I got to play it for a little while but I had lots of yard work and other things to do. It is such an improvement over the Fender I had been playing and the sound is great. The action is so much better and it is so much less work on my fingers. My wife played it briefly and also noticed how much easier it was hitting notes. I will send her guitar out for a set-up now and if she sticks with it I will start looking for a 314ce for her. She has been loving the new Strat I had bought for myself which is great because I have no love for the electric at all. At least it is getting used. My oldest daughter (18) picked right up on the tonal differences. My youngest daughter (13) wasn't aware I bought a new one but as soon as she saw me with it she realized it wasn't the same one. I didn't get a chance to take any photos yet but I will this afternoon.

Glad to hear you've received your guitar! 8) The 414ce's are excellent...what really impresses me is that the mids are more enhanced than rosewood so for me the sound is wonderful at a less expensive cost. Is the back/sides more caramel in color or somewhat darker? I've seen more of the caramel coloring in the 4xx series, but mine has more of a chocolate color throughout.
