... And this baby still makes me shake my head in disbelief when I picked her up to play.

She sounds crazy good thanks to a little extra Taylor magic that must've been injected into the body of this 2011 916ce. I customed her up a bit with the Florentine cutaway and tobaccoburst finish. The gang in El Cajon upped the ante even more with an absolutely killer set of Indian Rosewood whose red hues are more akin to Cocobolo...

...and a headstock overlay of Ebony that is anything but boring.

The dark burst finish does a great job of accenting the abalone inlay on the top.

Thanks to the folks at Taylor for building yet another killer instrument!

That is one of the most beautiful guitars born! I'll bet it plays like a dream.
-
Wow Gutch! :o That guitar is gorgeous! I've always appreciated the "little" things about the guitar. That headstock's overlay is perfect! It's nice to know that even the little details aren't overlooked with Taylor.
Do you have any sound clips of that guitar?
-
the burst finish really makes the ab purfling 'pop', imho
very nice :D
thanks for sharing the pics, Gutch :)
-
That is one special-looking 900! The tobacco burst and ebony headstock are highlights for me, and that rosewood's color is so-o-o- rich! Congrats!
-
That just may be the most beautiful rosewood I've ever seen. You're a lucky guy.
-
Fantastic Gutch! Schweeet music making machine!
And I am so glad to hear another say a year in and still getting that "goosebumps" feeling when you play.
-
Beautiful guitar, Gutch.
The back on that is just stunning. ;D

Thanks for the kind words, all. Yes, she does play like a dream and sounds like one, too.
Josh -- Now that you mention it, I need to do a little recording with her. She's been gigged a few times over the year, so the guitar is no stranger to play. I just haven't put a recorder at the back end of the mic. Maybe I'll try that this weekend...
CigarFan -- There is another one in the herd that can illicit the same giggles when you play it -- The '06 K65ce:

This one is from the "Killer Koa" log that they talk about in the 'Factory Fridays' video series that Taylor put together back then. This guitar has tone for days. Tone that will make you weep. Tone that will make your dog weep. Beautiful, vibrant, exciting, mouth watering, inviting Koa 12 string tone. Imagine the most delicious cigar you've ever experienced, combine that with the most perfect glass of single malt/small batch bourbon/cognac/red wine/apertif or whatever else you like to enjoy with your cigar. You would begin to get close to the perfection that is this particular K65ce.
Truly intoxicating...
She looks pretty good too...

My dog weeps when I play ... but it doesn't matter which guitar I'm playing. :-[
Gutch, your guitars are some of the most beautiful Taylors I've seen. Just fabulous.

I seem to have photographed my reflection in the second image …

Hey Randy! Yepper, the 912ce's are pretty sweet in their own right. I have one from 2003 that I had built with Cocobolo & Engelmann and a wide nut (1-7/8"). She's matured into a very nice fingerstyle guitar...

Man, reading that I felt the hair raise on the back of my neck! With that description I can almost hear the tone from here. And beautiful too!
But see the thing with the great cigar and libation is in an hour or so it's history with just the memory to hold on to. But that Koa 12 ... she'll be a family heirloom.

My 912 has the same neck as yours which prompted some initial concern; not only am I not a finger picker but I have small hands. Your cocobolo guitar must look nice.
-
I know what you mean, Randy. I have hands that are best described as bearclaws -- Big palms and little fingers. Surprisingly, the wider nut and string spacing is very comfortable to play. Ideally, I'd like to take the scale and body depth of the 12 Fret GC I have and apply it to the 1-7/8" nut and appointments of the 912ce. IMO, that would be just a killer instrument.
However, the 912 is too special for me to sell -- It's my wife's favorite member of the herd, and over the years it has become my 'Logo' guitar -- It's on my business cards, is the avatar you see to the left, and I'm holding it in the head shot photo I use everywhere. I actually don't play it out much anymore, as I need to update the ES in it (It's the '03 very first iteration), and the others more than fill the need.
She is a pretty one, though. That's for certain...: (Sorry about the size of the shots - I pulled up some old ones off of my website. Guess I need to downsize them! :o

The back is absolutely stunning - no surprise that it rarely leaves home !
-
Thanks, Randy. Oh, she's spent plenty of time out and about. That's the deal for me -- I appreciate the high end woods and bling, but none of my guitars are museum pieces. They all get played out and will occasionally earn a ding or two. Not abused by any means (I'm not a touring musician, just your average part time weekend warrior), but definitely played. The finish on the neck of the 912 has been worn to a very nice gloss from the original satin, and the frets could use a little work. I'm thinking that she'll probably make a trip back to home base for a tune up and the aforementioned ES upgrade later in the Spring.

Man, all the customs on this thread are killing me!!! Makes me like my guitars less and less!! LOL Absolutely beautiful guitars!!
