i'm already there ;D
Jon at My Favorite Guitars has the pics & info posted on his site too ...
spring's definitely here :D

While as expected, all of the offerings are gorgeous - I'm a little irked >:( in that new Mini's are just $100 different than the originals. I do love my Sapele Mini....but......for $100 and a few months I could have had some different choices.... :-\ just sayin'

You think they should've priced them higher?

i'm guessing that they may not have to be sold at that price & there's a possibility
that adjusted market value could come into play, perhaps not to the degree of the
baby Liberty Tree but when the bubinga, koa, maple & rosewood babies were available,
they were regular production (non-LTD) models & there was only a minimal upcharge
i really like my sapele mini too, but to my ear the mahogany top is incredible -
i don't believe all minis are created equal tonally (from the examples i've played) & if i were looking
at the LTDs, unless i didn't already have one (or 2), i would want to play it first to know how it sounds
based on the mahogany top model, i am really hoping that engelmann & cedar top minis
will be offered at some point on a LTD & sapele back & sides would be just fine, imho :)
-
Hmm, a cedar topped mini would be very nice. BTW, just came back from my local Taylor dealership and they tell me Taylor sold out of the minis.

I guess that is why they call them limiteds.
Sure would like to hear what they all sound like in my hands.

Not so fast Steve, Taylor might have sold out but your local dealer hasn't even received them yet. ;)
-
Does anybody have a inkling as to how the blackwood mini will sound in comparison to the others. I have never heard a blackwood guitar before. Thinking of ordering a GS Mini in blackwood or rosewood.

Such is the nature of Spring and Fall Limiteds...
-
so......how is it that LA Guitar has this info posted already, but it's not on Taylor's own site yet?
-
Yeah, I was wondering this too. They look so good you'd think they'd be used as the banner image...
-
Seems like L.A. Guitars are highly motivated in a good way ;)
-
they're beginning to 'land' already :)

My local dealer wont get their GS Mini stock in for another 30 days. Thinking about getting one. Not sure which one Rosewood, Blackwood, or Maple??? Any suggestions.
-
Just buy one of each.....you know you're going to eventually.... :D
I like the maple.

I like the maple.
Tell me why you like the maple. Please!

Since the back and sides are laminate, the only difference I think is aesthetics. I read this somewhere. Kinda like the 114 and 214 are essentially the same guitar except for the outside layer veneer which is not a tonal factor.
-
I think BC they are laminate there will not be the dramatic sound impact as there is with solids (maybe someone can elaborate) but I just simply think the Maple back of the Mini is really gorgeous.
I have been looking at the 600 series lately so maybe I'm biased....

while the GS Mini LTDs may have inner veneers matching the outer veneers, there is a
little bit more of a difference between a 114 & 214 (depending on the exact model)
114 - sapele laminate, varnish finish (all satin)
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/114 (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/114)
214 - gloss top with satin finish back & sides
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/214 (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/214)
rosewood inner & outer veneer
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/features/woods/body-woods/rosewood-laminate (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/features/woods/body-woods/rosewood-laminate)
214ce-BLK - all gloss (body & neck), hard rock maple neck
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/214ce-blk (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/214ce-blk)
maple inner & outer veneer
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/features/woods/body-woods/maple-laminate (http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/features/woods/body-woods/maple-laminate)
after playing & hearing last year's 214ce & DDX (now 214ce-BLK), the DDX had
a 'crisper' tone to my ear, which may be just variances between the 2 guitars, or,
it could be partially due to the differences between the two (finish, veneers & neck) -
the 2012s switch from a Tusq nut & saddle to NuBone (both made by Graph Tech),
so there may be a minute change due to that (the 10/11 GS Mini use NuBone also)
I like the maple.
Tell me why you like the maple. Please!
er ... maybe because it looks cool ???
like the binding on the mahogany neck of your 2010
814ce that has a satin rosewood headstock overlay :)
baby maple
(http://inlinethumb59.webshots.com/47290/2952112220081788860S600x600Q85.jpg)
maple neck (baby rosewood)
or, perhaps it's because maple may have more defintion, stronger fundamentals, fewer
overtones, faster attack, quicker decay & is more resistant to feedback than other woods ;)

Thanks for the technical spec clarification, michaelw. You're a fountain of information.
Last week, I had initially set out to buy a GS Mini for travel purposes. However, I made the "mistake" of test driving a 2012 114ce which sounded better than any of the GS Minis (as expected) and 214ce's (didn't check what model year they were) on the store that day. So I came home with a rather bulkier travel guitar... but I couldn't be happier.
