Since I began my quest to become a fingerstylist a short scale or 12 fret has been on my list of prospectives. I'm also trying to diversify the tonewoods in my collection hoping to get a broad spectrum of tonal quality and resonance.
Today is a grand day! I finally have in my possesion a 12 fret Taylor with some of the most beautiful Macassar Ebony I have seen. There is a significant variance in the look of this particular tonewood. I have seen some tending toward the reddish side almost resembling rosewood in a way but with darker streaks. And then some tending more toward brownish orange cream. Of course the amount of dark and light areas varies quite a bit. The new arrival has such a nice mix, more toward the brownish orange and cream and the back is bookended nicely. And the flamed Koa binding just sets everything off.
The new arrival today feels so good in my hands and the sound is phenominal. I feel a very personal warmth from this guitar. Not as much bass as my other Taylors but more than I had expected based on some descriptions I have read. Mids are incredible and treble is exquisite, both ringing with fantastic sustain.

Well, this post sure isn't going to help keep me from spending money on a 12-fret...
Congrats -- what a stunning guitar. That edgeburst is really nice. Nice photos too!

Congratulations! I think the macassar ebony can be a real wildcard but you got an outstanding set there.

Love that Macassar ebony- very dramatic-looking! I've been think about an edgeburst finish on a cedar top for a future BTO. Thanks for posting the pics, so I can get an idea of how it looks. Great wood combination , by the way. I wish you many, many happy years with your new baby. Congrats and God bless...

Dare I say this may be my last NGD for a while (yes michael, I know what I said the last time). But I didn't say never mind you! ;D
I don't have any recording equipment per se but if I can get a good recording on my phone that does the guitar justice, I'll post so you folks can hear just how nice she sounds.

I'm wiping the tears from my eyes, and the drool from my chin. I'm speechless. You are leading us all to financial ruin.
When you get tired of it, I get first dibs.

Great job. Time to reward yourself with an Avo No. 3 and a snifter of Courvoisier.

Now you're talkin'! Actually it was a Arturo Fuentes Anejo #77 and a couple fingers of Balvenie TUN Single Malt but you got the right idea!

One word: Bunnahabhain.
-
I'll bite ... what's a Bunnahabhain? Are they cubans? Or maybe from Nicaragua?
-
It's an Islay single malt whiskey. Take your pick: 12, 18 or 25 years old!
I have the world's greatest in laws who favor me each Christmas with a bottle of single malt, always a different brand. There have been many good ones over the years, but the 18 year Bunnahabhain is my favorite.

Wow! That's really a beauty.....
