I want to swap out the stock strap pins for Schaller S-locks but I'm afraid of cracking the wood. The screws look about the same size, but I want to be sure (my eyes aren't the best). Days ago, I wrote to Taylor Guitars and have yet to receive a reply. Some Taylor guitarists suggest redrilling the hole one size larger but none to my knowledge have actually done this. I have yet to find a guitarist who exchanged the strap buttons on their T5. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Take out the screw on the Taylor endpin and compare to the screw on the Schaller ...don't worry about your eyesight needing to be that sharp. You're not trying to "match" or compare thread pitch: simply see if the diameter is close. If yes, then you're good to go; if considerably larger than the original, then use a drill bit that is a hair smaller than the largest part of the Schaller's screw.
