Title: Would you order vintage button style tuners (Waverly, etc) on a Taylor?

I'm curious about this. Let's see how the poll goes.

Personal tastes will differ, but I prefer sealed tuners and find open tuners unattractive.

OK, open tuners look right on slotheads.

It depends on the guitar. Some guitars could look good with Waverlies or other open tuners, but on others I'm sure enclosed tuners look right.

(How's that for an uncommitted post!?)

Sounds about right. For example, I think Waverly tuners with ivoroid buttons would look stunning on the new 700 series or the xx5-8 acoustic series models. That said, they might look out of place on a 914ce.

On Taylor flat/solid headstocks I prefer sealed tuners, with Gotohs as my preference. 1:18 ratio for more universal use, but I actually like the 1:21 ratio. I play mostly in standard tuning where the higher turn ratio is not a factor.

On Martins, SCGCs, Collings, I prefer open back tuners.

On slot heads - open tuners single plates.

for me, i'd consider these (schertler 18:1s) with ebony buttons

if i were going to spec a no cut BTO adi/'hog or rw, with adi CV bracing &
'classic' original style appointments, similar in appearance to this

i'm partial to a solid headstock, rather than slotted, so for me
i won't be spec'ing a slotted one, unless it isn't possible to do so

otherwise, i'm inclined to stick with either 18:1 Grovers or 21:1 Gotoh 510s :)

Michael, those Schertlers are nice too. And I don't have anything against the current Taylor offerings -- I just wonder what more classic tuners would look like on guitars that have a more "classic" vibe like the new 700s.

A couple things I do kind of wish Taylor did with their current tuners:

I wish Taylor offered the Gotoh 510s in silver as an option -- I'm not sure why they only do them in gold, since Gotoh does make them in silver (and trans black).

I also wish the standard Taylor tuners used a smaller washer like the Gotohs and some vintage-style tuners do -- the bigger washers make the tuners take up more real estate than they need to on the headstock.
