If all goes well, I may soon be making a trade for a walnut and spruce 114ce. Do any of you have this (or a similar) guitar? I have owned 110s before, and I really liked them. Be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this model- I actually have never played one. Thanks!

Hey beachbum,
If you've owned a 110, then you know the "family" tone: a bit less bass and more mids and mid-highs than the dred. In other words, no surprises given the difference in body shape and all else being equal. FWIW, I've helped friends and acquaintances over the years buy used 110 and 114s as killer "starter" guitars; every one I've played has been a good, no-excuses guitar, which you already likely know. And with the walnut, you'll be getting quite the nice looker as well! :)

I happen to own a 2010 era 114ce that lives in Anchorage with friends. I have not seen it in five years now (I no longer fly commercially, so no trips to Alaska anymore). It was a fine instrument to have for weeklong guitar camps and the 55-60 hours of play at camp that week. My caretaker buddy still takes it to Acoustic Alaska Guitar Camp just in case someone has a mishap with the airlines. It has saved the bacon of a couple of campers already, but acquired some dings along the way that I did not put on it.
The 114 is nice and plays well. It is a little brighter overall and not quite as refined as the higher numbered GA's that I have owned, but is a perfectly serviceable instrument for guitar camp and for the former business trips up north. (I used to live in Alaska, so it was typical to take 2-4 work trips per year after I moved back south to America. ;D Buying a decent guitar to leave up there was cheaper than extra baggage fees, and less stressful than worrying about whether my camp guitar would survive airline baggage handlers). >:(

I bought a new 114ce this past August. It is a lot of guitar for the money.
I own two other ‘better’ guitars now and the 114 gets as much play as either.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! If things work out, I'll post some NGD pics.

I am using 214ce. The 214ce, the 114ce was a warmer sound with less overtones. It was more mid-range and had trebles that were less shimmery and less pronounced lows than the 214ce.

The 114ce just arrived, and I really love it! I'll post a NGD thread with some pics soon. Thanks again for all the good advice and info.
