a few days ago, original grain released a collaboration with taylor guitars on ebony and urban ash watches.
the ebony one is cool, has a sapphire crystal dial. i’d get one but i’m saving for an amp :)

Yeah, I have as many of these watches as I do Taylor guitars . Needles to say, I will be getting the ebony one. It will make my E14 sound even better when I am playing it. Plus, when I get the new watch , I’ll need to buy another Taylor to keep the numbers even . OG is the timekeeping version of Wood and Steel

Seriously?
I'd like to see them team up with a world class watch company; Omega, Breitling or the like.
I'm going to hazard a guess that Taylor isn't making these. I know Bob like nice watches (he's got a sweet Ulysses Nardin Maxi Marine), but these are novelty items and little more. Hell, the brand is sold in coffee houses in San Diego.
A world class guitar company deserves better.
It's a nice idea, and I'm sure it looked good on paper, but I think they could've done better in the execution...

I did some quick searches and it appears Original Grain is based in the area and shares a similar mindset of Taylor - to promote sustainability and to utilize wood. Two of the models use Urban Ash and the other is the Cameroon Ebony.
Perhaps there is a partnership forming to develop a relationship for Taylor to introduce sustainable woods into the workflow of Original Grain? It would make sense, but pure speculation in my part.
In terms of partnering w/ Omega and others, I haven't exactly seen an Omega or IWC offering wood surfaces in their collections - and/or maybe those watchmakers weren't interested and/or don't have the same vision as Taylor for sustainability?
I guess in the end, it's much simpler to either enjoy the collaboration, and if you don't agree w/ it, it's much easier to ignore it and move on with life.

I sure do like the idea of this collaboration. It seems to me that it is a good way to promote both brands. With wood being the link between the two, they could have a nice promotion with this.
I don't think that a watch company like Omega would to this with Taylor, after all they have that NASA, and James Bond collaboration that seems to be working well for them. TAG has a new venture with Porsche, and the Carrera line.
For me I would gladly set one of the these next to my Speedmaster in the watch box, I think they look pretty good. I don't foresee wood watches making a big comeback, but they do offer a nice connection with two of my hobbies, guitars and watches.
-
I think it's a great idea. Wood sustainability and conservation do appear to be common values of the two companies, and I'm all for that. The watches are attractive and distinctive, but as a non-watch collector, I probably would spend the money elsewhere. Actually, I might take a look at the rest of the Original Grain line to see if there's something else that suits me better. (Don't like the day/date on my watch faces - I like a cleaner look that would actually be less of a distraction from the beauty of the natural materials.)

True.
But Breitling partnered with Bentley, and that worked out pretty well...

Breitling with Bentley I think is a strange partnership in my opinion. Bentley and Vacheron Constantin I can understand. Breitling is a low to mid level Luxury watch. Bentley is top range luxury. Breitling is a excellent watch and I have played with the idea of getting a Navitimer or a Windrider over the years just never dropped the coin on one.

It's interesting that you find the Bentley/Breitling partnership strange, yet don't comment on Taylor's partnership with a watch brand that can be bought in a coffee shop.
Don't get me wrong. I understand that it's the whole "wood" thing, but I think a company as respected and well thought of as Taylor could've done that with just about anyone...

I guess I will just reiterate, what has been already said by others, that it appears that the reason that they teamed up on this was because their shared values with respect to sustainability. I don’t see anything wrong with that or any reason why they should have considered doing this with anyone else . That’s good enough for be me.
Full disclosure, I am a big fan of both companies. OG makes nice watches. Are they the best quality or most expensive watches out there? Nope. But they are nice watches. I have received tons of compliments. It’s a pretty sure bet I’ll be buying the Taylor watch . .. seriously.

Guitar Cowboy, those are beautiful!
-
very nice collection Guitar Cowboy, I like the look of them. I noticed on their web site that at least one of the Taylor models are sold out.
-
Thanks , I have liked the looks and have enjoyed owning them for a few years now. Yes , I see that they are sold out . Apparently people like them.... Hmm? I hope my wife was one of the early buyers, for my upcoming 57th B day next month... fingers crossed.

They are just beautiful. I think the argument you can use with your wife is that they are quite inexpensive compared to a new Taylor guitar. ;D

Funny you should say that because that point came up rather quickly when we were looking at them!
