Title: Should I buy it??
Post by: tnfiddler on February 06, 2012, 01:44:52 PM
While at a bluegrass festival this weekend, I came across a new 5-string fiddle from a very good luthier and fell in love with it.  It sounds and plays amazing, looks great and is a boomer!  I want this thing so bad but I am trying to decide if I want to buy  it.  I know it will get snatched up really quick.  It's $3,000 and I have the money to buy it, I am just trying to decide to buy it.  The first thing the wife said was, "You don't need it, you can only play one at a time!"  Opinions please, I need to call by at least Wednesday to tell him I want it.  What would my fellow musicians do??

Now you know better than to ask us bunch of enablers here what to do......... ::)

Can you sell your other fiddle if you get this one, do you even have to sell the older one - multiple fiddles are as good as multiple guitars or ukuleles or.....um........oh heck.....buy it!!!!!

There is NO WAY I would sell my Horner!!  I honestly could never replace it!  My whole thing is convincing the wife to let me get it.  I have the money for it from where I sold my Corvette, but you know how wives are about buying extra toys.  If I hadn't bought my T5 just a few months ago, she probably wouldn't sweat it so too bad.  I am dying here trying to get up enough nerve to tell her I want to get it.  I will keep you posted!!  All of you be sending up prayers for me that I can get a new toy!!  :D

Well, don't you need a backup fiddle?  I mean, everybody has a backup guitar or 12, why not be prudent and get a backup fiddle so you are always prepared.  It is what any good Boy Scout would do.

You've met two of my three criteria: you've played it, and you have the cash. The third factor is whether a significant other (if applicable) would accept the purchase as well. (Not that I've always followed my own advice on #3...) Go for it.

You know your wife better than we do. What will be the long term fallout from buying it?

Well, the wife SORTA went off when I told her I wanted to take some of my car money and get it......so, I don't forsee it coming home anytime soon.  Guess, I will just have to make do with my ole' faithful!!  I am probably just gonna take the cash up there next year and if he has another one, I am just gonna buy it and deal with the fallout as it comes!!!  Sorta bummed, but only playing it once, I didn't get that emotionally attached to it.
