hi matt,
your triple M is lookin sharp 8)

i was wondering if the tuners are the mini M6s or are they the full size ones ???

i had a set of the full size M6s (chrome on a PS14LTD), but i seem to remember
that the buttons were a bit smaller (closer to mid or 3/4 size) than standard (large) -
just curious, as from the close up headstock pic that is in your other thread
the buttons look smaller in proportion & in this full shot, they look larger (to me) :-\

nice upgrades :D

I've had my Mini for a week now.  Before I got it, I had never played one and when I went to Guitar Center to purchase one, none of the stores in my area had one for me to try.  I had already decided I wanted one and my only option was to order one online.  The one I received was factory fresh in the unopened Taylor box.  After playing it for a week, I thought it sounded fine but I thought the playability could have been better especially higher up on the neck.  Fast forward to today.  I'm at my local Guitar Center and they had just put one on the wall in the acoustic room.  I take it down and start playing it and immediately I noticed it seemed to play "easier" than mine.  The only way to know for sure would be to play both side-by-side in the same room.  I went home to get mine and after doing the comparison in the store, there was a big difference in playablity.  The one off the wall played like it had light gauge strings on it.  Of course it didn't but the action was lower so it felt like it.  I was having trouble hearing any difference, so I asked one of the sales staff to play while I listened.  Both sounded really big with plenty of low end but there was something special about the one off the wall and we both agreed it was the better sounding.  The other thing I noticed when I first saw it on the wall is the beautiful top with lots of figuring and bear claw.  I had to have it so the nice folks at GC let me exchange it and I'm a happy camper   ;D  I'm not sure this picture will show how cool the top is.

those are mini m6's from LMI.  about half the price of the mini 510s and nice and smooth.  the taylor tuners are slightly larger than the m6's so they are aliitle loose until the the screws are placed and they are tuned to tension, but now they are fine.  I also ordered the taylor gold strap pin, colosi bone saddle, and taylor ebony/abalone pins.  I like it a lot.  Needs a pickup, will probably put a fishman UST in it and use my aura pedal.

some sharp looking upgrades  8) & i like the top on your Mini, Glen :)

the Mini is about 2" longer overall (with 3/4" longer scale), & the body is
nearly 2" wider & just over an inch deeper than the baby, so it should be
nearly as 'portable', compared to a big Baby that has about the same overall
dimensions as the GC (the body 3/8" of an  inch slimmer), with the scale
length being a standard 25.5", vs the 24 7/8" short scale on  the GC -
i'd trust the hard bag to protect the Mini a good bit more than a gig bag too :)

The Taylor hard gig bag is nice but I picked up one of these for everyday storage.  I'll use the gig bag if I ever fly with it.

nice silking on the top & the double-guards give it a 'Gibsonesque' vibe ... cool  8)
the sapele makes for some nice accents also :)

waiting & kinda miffed that the 'web-release' held mine up (should've been here yesterday) -
hope it doesn't get frostbit sitting in the back of a truck or warehouse this weekend &
if i knew where it was early enough today, i'd have driven to the depot to get it ::)

Perfect fit.  Absolutely no movement.  The seller states Bob Taylor uses one.  Here is a link:

it looks like guitar fits to me, but the padding appears to be a bit thin at the tail block &
the headstock pocket is a bit long for a specfically made case & could be shortened by
a good amount (nearly to the center of the end latch) for better overall portability, imho

it looks very similar to a SKB 8 style case, with a patterned lining &
it could be a bit better, in term of humidity control, than the hardbag

actually, 'Big Bob' uses that case ... dr. brother Bobby, which would be the seller :-\
the shop is an authorized Taylor dealer, though

A different take on the GS mini pic. This is a gazebo in the middle of a man-made pond at the back of the building I work at. I've been taking the mini to work and playing during the latter half hour of my lunch.

I'd like to change out the plastic bridge pins for ebony with abalone dots, and the tuner buttons with ebony - just for cosmetics.

This is my GS Mini in the hands of my good friend in Chattanooga, Holt Webb:

Now, the story behind his getting it:

Holt started a project a couple years ago called "Vanishing America" (http://www.vanishingamerica.net/ (http://www.vanishingamerica.net/)). He's an amazing photographer, and his idea was to drive around the country, for five years, photographing things which would be gone in the next couple of generations. A very generous individual in San Diego bought him a motorhome and a Land Rover, and paid for both of them to be converted to biofuel.

When he would come to San Diego, he would park his motorhome up near the zoo. I would drive over and take him out for sushi, then we'd go back to the motorhome and have a couple beers. Well, one night, I pulled his guitar out of its case. It was an older Washburn. The action was horrible, and the strings were so old I thought I'd need a tetanus shot after playing it. The case also took up a lot of room in the motorhome. So, I got his parent's address from him (he was still travelling then) and told him I was going to send him something. I sent him the guitar, with the ES Go installed.

I won't get into the specifics of how I acquired this guitar, but it's one of the GS Mini prototypes that was built in San Diego.

Sadly, the project costs about five grand a month to keep on the road, and he just wasn't able to sustain it. He manages a bar in Tennessee now, but wants to put the project back on the road one day. I know, if I ever hit the lottery, Holt's going to be back on the road for a long time, because I'll give him a great big pile of money...

Very nice without the pickguard Michael, first time I saw this demo'd by Fazio's on youtube with no pickguard I was startled. I like it both ways actually on the guitar, but it looks very cool without. I'd like to try a hog top but don't think I'll have a chance anytime soon.... I can imagine the tonal difference though just from how the BT spruce and 'hog sound different from each other.

Great thread by the way, be nice if some of those spring ltd's join the throng in time...

Hi all,
New to the forum.
Here are some pics of my new Mini. I bought 2 of them: The rosewood for me and a sapele for my daughter in law who's just learning to play. I couldn't find a rosewood anywhere around where I live, so after viewing the YouTube videos from Fazio's I went to their website and they had 3 in stock. I placed the order and got an email from Bryan thanking me. He offered to send me photos from all three so I could pick the one I wanted. I told him it wasn't necessary, that I trusted his judgement. My 714 doesn't look that much different than most others I've seen (I figured Indian rosewood was Indian rosewood, right?). Needless to say, I was shocked when I opened the case. I would swear it was Brazilian by the looks of it. I wish my 714 had the variegation this one has.
It's also fun to have both the sapele and rosewood side by side to play for comparison. I got to compare the sapele and the hog side by side in the music store and found the hog sounded a little more balanced (kind of like the 714 w/cedar) where as the sapele was a little more powerful with more on the top and bottom ends. The rosewood to the sapele is like  the difference between the hog and sapele only that the rosewood has more top and bottom than the sapele and the mids are also quite "bright". To sum it up, the rosewood Mini is "Powerful". Truely a flatpicker's dream travel guitar.
I must say, I haven't had this much fun on a guitar in a long time.
BTW, I have never had a more pleasurable experience buying ANYTHING online than I did with Fazio's. The concern for my satisfaction from Bryan Rankins was an unexpected courtesy that I thought was lost in today's online shopping world.
Brett
