Title: First Time Taylor Owner in Texas

Greetings!

I'm just an average guitarist from Dallas trying to get better.  I had a chance to pick up a 2004 814CE-L30 30th Anniversary guitar and pounced on it.  It's a beautiful guitar and I'm sure it will act as inspiration to continue to practice and learn.  I look forward to meeting some of you in the forums and encourage any feedback if you see any of my posts.  Thank you for the opportunity to join your forum, we are lucky to have such a place to meet and discuss!

Welcome Michael - boy that 814ce L30 is a lucky find! Hope you can post pics of it soon...anyway, enjoy your stay with us - lots of good information in a friendly environment here. Again, welcome!

Since there was a request, I thought I would share some pictures of my new baby.

The tuning buttons will need replacing.  I don't know if you can see it in the pictures, but the A and G buttons have been broken and re-glued.

They seem to be just cheap pieces of plastic "ebonite".

Ahhhh - brings back sweet memories of when these limiteds came out. She sure is a beauty! Yes, you can definitely find some solid wood replacement buttons to replace the ebonite buttons. All except two of my guitars have wooden tuner buttons. One of those has very shiny chrome Gotoh buttons while the other has Gotoh ebonite buttons. I have a whole bunch of those on hand, because I replaced them when the guitars were first bought.

Anyway, it's a great  looking guitar. How does it sound?

Unfortunately, it is fretting out in a lot of places.  I'm going to take it into a Gold-Level Taylor Service Center to have it serviced.  The fretboard and frets are not worn, so I am hoping it is an easy fix.

Hello Michael and welcome! I'm also a newcomer to the brand Taylor (about 2-1/2 years) and to this discussion forum. Additionally, I play an 814ce DLX and I do love it!

Welcome to the forum Michael.  Your 814 is a very special guitar in my opinion.  The replacement of the tuner buttons is a easy fix.  You can go from the plastic to very exceptional wood, stone and all sorts of materials to replace with.  personalize it any way you want, if you decide to move it along to someone else well just pick up some ebonite buttons, and then you have a nice set left over for a different guitar.
