Anyone here got any preference for a Wound G string vs. a Plain G string? I tend to favour the latter. I've always found the G string, being a 'treble' string, has more 'zing' when unwound than when wound.
Any views? Bill

I have never thought about it. I just use the Elixir strings as they come. Never knew I had the option.

Wound G for acoustic, plain G for electric ... that's how I roll

Don't you guys ever experiment? I find Wound G not 'lively' enough. Bill

I really like a wound G. I think it is a lot brighter. I try to find sets for my electrics with a wound G (T5 and Tele). Personally, I really don't like a big fat solid G. I even replace the solids with a larger wound from a different set just to get away from that dead (and stiff) solid string.

Definitely use a wound G. The one string is going to change the tone of the guitar a lot by using a plain G.
